Kiyana POV: Melanie's birthday was yesterday, my baby girl is 7 years old. It broke my heart when her dad missed another birthday because he was overseas.

Omniscient POV: Kiyana had just finished placing all of Melanie's gifts in her room and now was turned to walk out when Melanie called her. "Mom. Does dad even care?" Kiyana mentally sighed knowing August would be brought up eventually. Throughout her birthday party she had done good not talking about August but you could see it in her eyes she missed and needed her father. "Of course he cares baby." "Well he has a funny way of showing it. He's missed so much of my life." Sadly, she was right the last time she saw August was 3 years ago when he left. He's written letters and one time was even able to face time but that wasn't enough his family missed him. "I know baby girl but I don't want you to worry you pretty little head, get some rest." Kissing Melanie's forehead she exited the room walking down the hall to her own. Laying on August side of the bed her eyes started to get heavy as sleep slowly took over...
Kiyana POV: I groaned as heavy knocking woke me up from my peaceful sleep. It was eight in the morning who the fuck was at my door? I walked down the stairs and yanked the door open ready to cuss whoever it was out but I couldn't when I saw August. I jumped into his arms causing him to stumble backwards but he quickly caught his balance walking us into the house. I kissed all over his face causing him to chuckle and wrap his arms tightly around me. "D-Dad?" August snapped his head in the direction of Melanie's voice and quickly placed me on the ground. Tears filled her eyes as she slowly made her way to August wrapping her arms around his waist sobbing into his uniform. "Dad you missed a lot. birthdays, my piano recitals basketball games. you missed everything." She sobbed loudly gripping onto August belt loop tighter. "Shh I know baby, I know I'm here now." he kissed the top of her head and grabbed your hand kissing it.
