Lisa and I arrives at the party on time. She goes out of the car first and immediately enters James' house.
She did not spoke to me the whole ride. She's either looking out the window or using her phone - which is odd. That is not my Lisa. She's always giggly and talkative whenever we're together. Every time we meet up, we talk about a lot of things - our work, pets or even a viral meme.
She was totally fine when I arrived in her apartment earlier. Which makes me think I might have done something wrong. After that staring game we had, her mood suddenly changed. Maybe, she already knew about my feelings. Was I too obvious? No. She can't know about it yet. I shake my head as I throw the thought away. I got out of my car and goes straight to the party.
I looked for Lisa in the crowd for about three minutes until I see her with James. They're sitting on the couch happily talking. I walk toward them and James sees me approaching. He greets me with a wide smile and gestures me to take the vacant seat near them.
"Hey. Happy birthday." I greet.
"Thanks, Jennie. I'm glad you came." He replies.
"You know that Lisa never stops to nag until she gets what she wants."
"Exactly!"
"Hey, I'm not like that." Lisa says with a tiny voice while cutely slapping her boyfriend's shoulder. And just like that, the two has entered into their own world again.
Lisa's mood changed. My giggly and talkative Lisa is back at being herself, but I hate what I'm seeing. I should be the one making her smile that wide. I should be the one who showed her that funny cat video. And I shouldn't be the one loving her secretly.
"I'll get some drink." I say to the love birds but I guess they're too busy to hear me. So I get up on my seat and looks for the cooler. Suddenly, I felt a cold hand grabbing my elbow and I turn to see an old friend, Tom.
"Hey, Jennie." He greets.
"Tom! How are you?"
"I'm doing good. How about you? How's life going?"
"Life is great." I lie.
"Good. Are you looking for something?" He asks. I told him I'm looking for some drink so he escorts me to the mobile bar located in the garden. I asks for a cocktail drink and Tom invites me to have a little chat. Of course, I accept. It's nice to meet and to catch up with old friends. We talk about my music and his coaching career.
"Jennie, if you don't mind, can I get your number?" Tom asks while handing me his phone.
"Yeah. Sure." I reply as I type my number.
"You look gorgeous. I just thought you should now." I really appreciate what he said but if he's trying get me on a date, he's not winning. Tom is such a boyfriend material. A man every girl is dreaming of. He's handsome, smart and talented. But I have never felt attracted to him. He will always be just a friend to me.
"Thanks." I reply.
"I want to ask something." Tom says.
