"I think you should be with someone better instead."
Sharon couldn't process what he was saying. Better? What better? My own mother did not even come visit me once after all that happened; my father left me when I was 7 and you're saying go live with someone better?
"Wh-what do you mean better?" she said, turning his face towards her with her hands.
"Someone who loves you" he stared back, pulling her hand down into his. "And means well."
"What are you talking about?" she was confused. "Swayam you can't just say whatever the fuck you want okay."
"No Sharon, you need to understand. This is not healthy" his voice rose as he spoke and anger slowly took over the better of him.
"Understand what? Do you want me to understand that you don't love me? And that you're toxic for me?" her voice trembled and her eyes glazed with tears.
"That is what it is. Okay?" his jaws clenched and Sharon could tell it was his anger speaking, not him. But there's only so much she could endure, only so far this could keep going before she snapped. "I don't think I love you enough."
"Okay. Just because you say so."
Sharon got up from the bed and left the room. She was crying but it did not affect what she was doing- stuffing her suitcase with her clothes not caring about uneven creases, not any more.
It took him a minute before he snapped out of it when he realized that Sharon wasn't in the same room, that she was packing her bags. She was leaving.
"Sharon wait" he said, rushing to her side trying to snatch the piece of pink clothing that she was about to throw into the suitcase.
She didn't speak, only patiently waited for him to let go but heard his voice instead.
"I'm sorry. Please don't leave me."
This time it was his voice that trembled. "Wh-where are you going?"
He kept looking at her, thinking she would stop to look at him but not this time. "Sharon please you know I got driven by my anger."
"Again" she snapped. "And you tried to push me away Swayam. I can bear everything and have been bearing all this while. But this?"
"I take it all back don't go please" he replied. His head felt it could burst from trying to hold in all the tears.
"I can't Swayam" she said. "Not this time."
Sharon put her suitcase down and strolled outside the room, throwing on her jacket and grabbing the car keys. She knew she'd break if he looked into his eyes at that moment so she did not at all.
And Swayam just watched her go. He had nothing to say, not anymore. His anger had gotten the best of him again so he could not think straight. All he saw was Sharon dragging her suitcase out of his room, out of his house. Her car zoomed out from the parking area and he was still here sitting, listening. She was gone.
