Sharon stood up and dragged herself to their bedroom. She glanced at Swayam in his peaceful slumber, oblivious to the fact that their lives were about to take a full hundred and eighty degrees. It was 5:30 AM which meant Swayam would be up in an hour or so and even though her first response to the entire situation was to shake him out of his reverie, she decided it was better to be sure about it herself. She grabbed her jumper and car keys and drove to the pharmacy to buy herself a bunch of pregnancy test kits.

Ten.

She bought ten kits and by the time she had taken the last test, Swayam was already knocking at the washroom door.

"I-I'll be out in a minute" Sharon stammered as she stared into the sink, tossing the final plastic stick into the pile. Positive.

In a moment of weakness, her eyes welled up. She was pregnant, with his child. Sharon had dreamt of this for a million times but never had imagined it'd happen under such circumstances. Their academies have barely even started off, let alone incurring any profit and both of them have to work long hours training students and themselves. She'd have to quit her job which meant it will all come down to Swayam and she couldn't put him through all of that all by himself. Which leaves her with the one thing that she never thought she'd have to do. Abortion.

No way. There was no way she could do that to their baby. To a part of Swayam that breathed inside her and even though it was too soon, she caught herself hoping it'd be a little girl. She'd do her hair and take her shopping. What would she name her? Maya. Or maybe she'd let Swayam pick a name.

Sharon sighed. She had to tell him.

Sharon gathered all the used test kits into a disposal bag and carefully tied its opening before shoving it into the trashcan.

When she finally got out of the washroom, Swayam had resumed sleep. He woke up to the click of the doorknob and looked at her groggily.

"What took you so long?" he asked. Sharon climbed back into the bed beside him and tucked herself against him.

"Nothing" she replied. She looked at him dreamily; his sharp features appeared softer and closed eyelids fluttering as the sunrays fell on their faces. His hands were around her, wound up protectively like always. And that's all it took for her to decide that she was ready. They were ready.

"I was thinking if I should take a leave today" she said.

"You should" he replied.

"And you should wake up" she pushed against his chest.

"I should" he sighed and Sharon laughed, feeling sorry for him but she knew she'd make it up to him. She'd make it up to him very soon and its the best way possible.

After Swayam had left, Sharon booked an appointment at the hospital. She wanted to be sure that it wasn't a false alarm even though her instincts told her that it wasn't. The symptoms were so clear and out there- the morning sickness and crazy hormonal up-rise, that it couldn't possible be a false alarm.

Swayam and the rest of the team were busy rehearsing when their routine. It was almost the 7 in the evening and they were about to call it a day. But not before Simi walked into their rehearsal room with a confused face and her cell phone light glaring.

"Sharon quit the academy" she announced but her eyes were on Swayam. So it was more like a direct accusation, as if it were because of him. Well, she wasn't entirely wrong but her reasons were vastly different from the actual case.

Swayam frowned, hitting pause on the music player and walking towards her. Simi gave the phone to him and stood with her hands on her hips, waiting for him to react.

Swayam read the mail, trying to process what could possibly be the reason for her quitting. It said she wanted to shift to a desk job at the administration effective now onwards and Swayam knew his Sharon, knew how that is one thing she does not want and to what extent.

"Why?" he whispered.

"You tell me" Simi replied spitefully.

Swayam couldn't process. They're academies had barely started off and with all that was coming their way, they couldn't afford to have a core member back off.

"That's just selfish" he heard a distinct voice amongst all the murmurs that had taken off from the point Simi entered the room. "Yea, I'm not sure if its safe to let someone this irresponsible handle administrations."

Selfish.

Swayam heard the voices speak whatever they felt like and his blood boiled. But there was only so much he could say to defend her. How could she?
