"He's headed up Fourth Avenue! (L/N) can you catch him?!" My partner's voice, detective Kirkland yelled through the walkie talkie. His voice was breathless, just like mine.
"I'll try!" I yelled, raindrops smacking against my face and clothes as I ran along the rain-soaked streets.
I was panting furiously, running after thief who stole thousands worth in diamonds and presumed murder of hundreds of people. I took a shortcut from First to Fourth, and the moment I did I caught a glimpse of a grey hoodie.
"Stop! Police!" I screamed, ripping out my badge. It was clear he'd heard me, but he didn't stop. He only ran faster.
Typical, they never stopped. Eh worth a shot.
Citizens quickly jumped out of the way, letting me through. The man I was chasing just shoved the citizens aside.
I'm running out of breath very quickly. If Kirkland doesn't get his arse here soon I'm gonna pass out.
Just when I'd lost all hope in my partner, I see a blonde head of hair coming around the corner. My face immediately brightens, relieved that this ridiculous chase will be over soon.
"Freeze! Police!" Kirkland demands, showing his badge.
The thief does freeze, knowing he's surrounded. He looks left to the very busy street, then right to the alley up ahead. His oddly creepy half white half black glances from myself to Arthur.
He darts into the alley.
This feels cliché, and almost too easy.
I run into the alley, turning the corner. A fist swings out at me. I squeak, ducking down. His foot comes up, slamming harshly against my stomach. I cry out in pain, but the pain doesn't stop me from grasping his foot and yanking it up so he loses his balance. He falls to the ground, letting out a surprised yell.
I go to pin him to the ground, but he jumps up, swinging another fist at me. I dodge, turning to roundhouse kick him in the side. He doubles over, and I smash my knee into his face.
Well, weirdass mask.
He yells, falling to his knees. His hands cover his mask and I see blood dribbling out of the bottom. He recovers rather quickly, looking past me to see something. I turn my head to see a breathless Kirkland.
About damn time.
I look back to the thief to see he's running again. He jumps onto a ladder.
I growl. "No you don't!" I yell, running after him. I jump up, just barely catching his leg and yanking with all of my might.
His grip slips on the wet ladder, falling onto the wet ground and almost on top of me.
"You're under arrest." Kirkland grins.
THE INTERROGATION ROOM
"I've let you keep the mask on this long, take it off." I demanded.
"You're not gonna like what you see." He mutters.
I scoff disbelievingly. "Take it off."
He slowly slips the mask off, revealing grey skin and pure white eyes.
I'm startled for a moment. Wasn't expecting that one. Even more surprisingly it's oddly attractive.
"Pfft, paint and contacts? Expected a little more from a criminal such as yourself." I roll my eyes.
He looks surprised, but says nothing at all.
"So about those homicides..."
THREE DAYS LATER
I learned the dude's fake name is Kagekao. I couldn't get a real name from him, but the team is doing anything they can to find some sort of information on this guy.
He's going on trial for the murders of hundreds of people, and the attempted theft of some very expensive diamonds that were found on his person at the time of his arrest.
I was doing some paperwork at my desk, sipping on the coffee detective Beilschmidt got me. I heard footsteps approach behind me. I spin in my chair, a large smile on my face. I had been very happy since catching Kagekao.
I see Arthur and Alfred standing at my desk.
"What can I do for you boys on this lovely day?" I asked, smiling ridiculously at the two of my male coworkers.
They look at each other nervously. I gaze at them confusedly, the smile vanishing from my face.
"He's escaped." Alfred finally answers.
"WHAT?!?!?!"
THAT NIGHT
I unlock the door to my apartment, throwing my things on the ground angrily. I grumble, heading to the kitchen to grab a nice cup of tea. As I pass the living room I hear an unexpected voice.
"(Y/N), was it?"
I jump, spinning around to the armchair in my living room. Kagekao sits there, his mask back on his face and arms folded.
"Ballsy. Showing up to a cops house after escaping from prison." I laughed.
"Talking back to the armed murderer sitting in your living room. Even more so." He replies.
"So you did do it." I grin.
"You've still got barely any evidence." He says.
I scowl, defeated.
He stands from the armchair, walking over to me. I back up, not wanting to be near him for obvious reasons. He slips his mask off and pulls me towards him.
He lays a sweet kiss on my lips. "See you around, detective." He winks at me.
Then he's gone. I touch my lips.
Oh shit. I bash my head into a wall. "A criminal (Y/N)? Really?!" I groan.
I hear a deep chuckle from the streets outside.
