Trinity looked down at her piles of homework. She hadn't realize how different the teaching curriculum was until that point. She had a lot of things she needed to make up and learn about. She grabbed a pencil from her desk and started on her math homework. Her phone buzzed and she looked down to see Eric's name above the number.
"Yes, an excuse for not doing my homework this very minute. Thank you, Eric," she said to herself as she picked up her phone. A simple Hey laid on the screen. She smiled to herself and started to reply when there was a knock on the door. She quickly put it down and called, "Come in." Her mom slowly opened the door and took a couple steps inside her room.
"I wanted to ask you how your day was. I didn't get to talk to you about your first day yesterday because of my job interviews. Did you meet any friends?"
"Yes, mom, I met four great ones. There's Kyrin, Vanessa, Eric, -"
"Ooh, a boy?" Her mom questioned with a smirk on her face.
"Yes mom. Boy's exist in the school," Trinity responded slightly laughing. "The fourth friend is Eric's twin brother, James. They don't look that much alike though. Eric has light brown hair and James has black hair. They both have green-blue eyes though. Well actually James's eyes are a little bit more blue," Trinity said thoughtfully.
"That's very observant of you. Anyways, did you have a good day? Have you finished your homework?"
"No, all my teachers gave me packets to get caught up on where the rest of the class is. It stinks. I wonder if they'll check to see if i actually do them..."
"Don't take your chances, sweety. I-" Her mom started to explain when Trinity's phone buzzed again. "Who would that be?"
Trinity looked down and Eric's name popped up again. She opened the message and read aloud, "'I know we don't have the same math period, but we have the same teacher and I don't know the answer to number four on the worksheet from the homework. Do you know how to do it?' It's Eric. I gave them my phone number."
"Well, I'll let you get back to your homework and friends," her mom said as she walked back out the door, closing it behind her.
Trinity sighed with relief and responded to Eric with a yes, and I'd be thrilled to help you. She smiling to herself. "This is gonna be an interesting year."
. . . . .
Mrs. Brooks handed Trinity food to prepare and pack in her lunch. Trinity neatly packed them in her lunch box, so nothing got squished. She had packed a bunch of cookies and cupcakes to share with her friends. She hopped down the three stairs into her family room and sat down on the couch with her phone. She scrolled through her games until her thumb landed gently on the last one, Truth Sketch. She hit start and immediately after, a drawing began to appear. The point of the game was to find out what the drawing was suppose to be of. There were things in it to try and throw you off and you had to find the "truth" in the sketch. Trinity observed as a small body was made with sharp teeth and it dawned on Trinity what it was. "It's a monster!" She exclaimed. Her mom suddenly rushed into the room looking more terrified than ever.
"Is everything all right?" She asked nervously.
"Yes...I'm playing Truth Sketch, mom. They drew a monster. Are you ok?"
"Oh... Ok um. Y-yes, sweetheart, I'm fine. I just didn't get much sleep last night, that's all," her mom said and quickly got out of the room. Trinity stared after her in confusion. She shook it off and turned off her phone before packing it into her backpack.
