A few weeks went by and it was now the first day of winter break. Trinity woke up to the sun shining through her window. Trinity reached over and grabbed her phone from her nightstand. She texted Eric, Vanessa, Kyrin, and James to come over at ten o'clock for lunch and to hang out. Her mom was already aware of the plan and told Trinity whenever she wanted to invite them over, she could. After rolling out of bed, Trinity grabbed her sketchbook off the dresser, which she had been drawing in the night before. On the page was a boy with a pair of wild, blue-green eyes, light-brown tousled hair, and a giant smile with small, barely noticeable dimples. She had drawn Eric. After she stared at her drawing for a couple seconds, she closed her sketchbook and put it under her bed, where her friends wouldn't see it. Trinity got dressed out of her pajamas and went down stairs. Walking into the kitchen, she grabbed a bagel and sat down. The microwave clock blinked 8:39. Trinity moved to reach the cream cheese from the counter and spread it lightly on her bagel. She picked it up and headed up to her room. While she sat in her desk chair, she ate her breakfast in silence. She started to doze off a little, but jerked up when the doorbell rang. Running down the stairs, Trinity opened the door to find Eric standing there.
"Hey, Trinity! James will be here in about half an hour. He's at baseball practice right now," Eric said as he stepped inside.
"That's fine," Trinity responded, smiling. Eric returned the smile.
"Am I the first one here?" He asked as he looked around the house.
"Yes, you are," Trinity answered.
He turned and looked her in the eyes. He made a childish smile.
"Well aren't I special."
Trinity laughed and Eric seemed to smile more.
"What?" She asked.
"Wha- oh, nothing, just you have a really pretty laugh..." He trailed off.
They stood there for a few awkward, silent seconds, when Trinity asked, "So, do you want to see my room?"
"Sure, I'd love to," replied Eric. They walked up the stairs and down the hallway, turning right at the end. "Whoa! Your room is huge!" Eric said as he looked around and observed all her drawings. "You're a very good artist," he said as the doorbell rang.
"You can wait here if you want," Trinity said before making her way out of her room. She trotted down the stairs and noticed Eric behind her.
"I thought you'd wait," she mumbled to him.
"And risk you opening the door and getting kidnapped? No thank you." He told Trinity as he held back a laugh. She turned completely around and gave him a weird look. She rolled eyes when Eric looked down at the ground like a guilty puppy. She pulled open the door to see Vanessa standing next to Kyrin.
"I saw Vanessa's car pull up and decided to come over with her," said Kyrin. They walked in as Trinity explained that James was coming soon. Trinity led them up to her room and sat on the floor, so they could all have seats. Vanessa sat in her desk chair, Kyrin sat on her bed, but Eric sat next to her on the floor. Trinity blushed, and Vanessa and Kyrin rolled their eyes.
"You were right, Trinity. You do have a lot more drawings than me," said Vanessa as she observed Trinity's walls.
Trinity yelled, "I told you! Don't forget my dozens and dozens of sketch books, either." Everyone laughed. Trinity grabbed a sketch book from the stack next to the nightstand. "Give me something I should draw."
Eric yelled in a weird voice, "How about a unicorn?"
Trinity shook her head and chuckled with the response, "Sure." She grabbed her colored pencils and began drawing. First the head with little ears, then down to the body and legs. She sloped the horn up and made a pronounced snout with slanted nostrils. She next added the hooves at the end of the legs. She made the tail and mane, stringy and shiny. She added some more detail, so it looked more realistic. She stared at her drawing for a couple seconds, then turned it around to her friends.
