Ailani's POV:

I never would've thought taking care of a baby would be this much work. Abel left during the middle of the night, but promised to see me soon, but while here he did help me out.

We took turns changing diapers and feeding, but now I'm on my own.

The appointment with Dr. Bastia went like how I figured. For Asad to be two months old, he's severely malnourished, most likely from Cierra not being able to care for him like she should've.

He's also pretty lucky to be alive, since he's so underdeveloped.

Of course, they put him on vitamins and increased his milk intake so that he could gain more weight and his brain development changes for the better.

Currently, I was on my way to my mom's to help her with whatever she needed me to do with unpacking.

I pulled into the driveway of the two story home, that by the way I purchased when I received my first check, and got out, grabbing Asad's car seat and diaper bag.

I used the key to unlock the door and walked in.

"–Mama!" I called out and followed the sweet smell of cookies baking, and saw her standing over the stove. "Ooo what are you doing?"

"Making cookies, Susan from next door brought over a batter of cookie dough for me to try. Who's baby do you have?" She asked, looking from the top of her glasses.

She walked over and examined Asad, smiling and clasping her hands over her mouth. "He's just the cutest little something."

"–he's Cierra's baby." I spoke, and she cut her eyes at me, the light green hue turning dark green within seconds.

"Oh really? How'd you end up with him?"

"She's in a tight spot and needed someone to take him in, and the first person she thought of was me."

She shakes her head in disappointment. Of course my mother has a bunch of experience with babies, heck she would watch a lot of the kids on the army base for free after she retired.

Asad began to whimper, sounding like an adorable kitten, and she took it amongst herself to unsnap him and held him in her arms.

"Hmph, well if you ask me that's just trifling. How the heck does she just dump her own baby off to someone and not look back? I tell ya, when she gets back, if she comes back, you're not giving her this child."
