Preface: Exciting News

"Oh, Melody," my mother sang.

I walked to the top of the stairs while brushing my nice reddish brown hair, and glanced down at my mom. "What's up?" I asked.

"Guess who was just on the phone," she said.

I thought for a moment, thinking of anyone that could call that could make my mother seem so excited. "I don't know," I said, giving up.

"Carmina-your agent."

I knew who my agent was; she didn't need to tell me that. "Okay, what did she say?"

My mom smiled at me hugely. "You got the part!"

"The part?" I tried to think of what I had auditioned for.

Then I remembered.

OH MY GOD! After starlet Scarlet Wakefield had dropped out of the new movie, Chasing for Answers, I had auditioned for the main role she left behind. It was going to be directed by a renowned director, Johnson Pierce. I had only auditioned for Leah-the girl the movie surrounded-so that had to be the role I got. This was so cool! And what made this even better was the fact that I was going to be co-starring with my acting idols, Keely Crawford and Tyson Sinclair.

Keely was a girl who always played the popular person, the girl with bouncy blond hair and pretty blue eyes. But she wasn't your usual mean cheerleader. Her characters were always nice inside and out. Not once was she in a role where she bullied other people. That's what made her so great, and why everyone thought she was the most talented. Well, most talented girl at least.

Tyson Sinclair. Oh, what is there to say about him except for the fact that he was painfully gorgeous? I had huge posters of him on each wall in my room. He was the guy with shaggy and curly brown hair that reached the tip of his ears, and he also had amazing brown eyes. He was the one who played the helpful boyfriend, or the smart jock, and he was every girl's dream guy-including mine.

But I was the one that was able to play his love interest in this new movie. It was so incredible!

I screamed in delight and my mom clapped her hands.

"I got the job?" I squealed.

She laughed while speaking. "Yes! Congratulations, honey!"

I screamed again. "Oh my god! Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!" I hopped up and down in happiness.

"What's all the hub-bub about?" my dad asked, coming out of his room and standing beside me.

I screamed a third time, throwing my arms around his neck, hopping up and down again, though it was a little bit more difficult.

"She got the role of Leah!" my mom announced.

"She did now, did she?" my dad asked once I had calmed down to just hopping with a huge smile on my face.

"I did!" I said excitedly.

He smiled, then his eyes narrowed. "Does that mean you're going to kiss the guy that you have plastered all over your walls?"

Gasp! I hadn't thought of that. I glanced at my mother, wide eyed, and she squealed for me.

"Oh my god!" I shouted even louder than I had before, causing my dad to cover his ears. "I do get to kiss him!" I sprinted into my room, slamming the door behind me.

I ran to the closest poster and began covering Tyson's face and lips with kisses. Then I ran to my phone, picked it up, and called my best friend, Josie.

She answered on the second ring. "Hello?"

I screamed into the phone.

"Who is this?" Josie asked nervously.

"Josie!" I practically shouted. "I got the part!"

"Mel?" she asked. "Melody, is that you?"

"Yes! It's me!" I replied impatiently. "I got the acting job!"

"What? Really?" Her excitement level ascended as well. "The one for Chasing for Answers?"

"Exactly."

"So wait..." She paused. "YOU GET TO MEET TYSON?"

We screamed in unison.

"You are so lucky," she said. "And I am so jealous."

"You should be. I get to meet Tyson Sinclair! And kiss him!"

There was silence on the other line, then another scream from Josie.

"YOU DO!" she roared.

"Yes! This is so-"

"Completely out of this world!" Josie finished.

"Melody," my mom called. "Get off the phone. We need to go celebrate."

"Josie, I gotta go," I said.

"You are so taking me to Hollywood with you," she said seriously.

"Of course. But I have to go. See ya!"

We shared another bloodcurdling scream, and then I hung up, giving my poster of Tyson another kiss.
