No Way Out

Chapter 2

I was walking down the hall with my head down, heading to my locker, when I ran into a wall, or I think it was a wall..

I was just waiting to fall, but I never did, I opened my eyes and instead I felt hands holding me up, and big blue eyes piercing into my grey ones.

I quickly panicked" Please don't hurt me!" I whispered-yelled.

He looked confused, then he spoke, "Why would I want to hurt you?"

This was the boy I despised because he had the life I always wanted, Calvin Reed.

He raised one of his hands, and I closed my eyes waiting for the slap, or punch.

When it never came, I slowly opened my eyes and saw his hands moving a stray piece of hair out of my face.

I flinched back at his touch, "Are you okay? " He asked as if he was really concerned.

"Y-yeah, I'm j-just gonna g-go now! " I stuttered out.

I quickly picked up my books and walked- well more like sprinted down the hallway.

Once I got to homeroom I saw I was the first one there. We have five more minutes till classes started.

I took a seat in the first row and laid my head on the desk.

After a couple minutes the bell finally rung, and kids started piling in, I kept my head on the desk. That was until I felt a tap on my shoulder.

I jumped and looked up, and I saw no other than Calvin Reed, I wish he'd just leave me alone..

"I will leave you alone, I just wanted to tell you your pencil was on the ground." He snapped.

Oh god, did I say that out loud?

"Yes. Yes you did. "

"Uh.. um, thank you?" I said in more like a question.

"Uh.. um, your welcome. Nerd. " He said mocking me.

It's funny how he was just being nice in the hallway, now he wants to be rude since we're in front of people, that's good for me, now he'll leave me alone.

The teacher Mrs. Hampton finally walked in the classroom about ten minutes late, and she told us she had some things to handle, when we all know she was in the Lounge making out with the P.E. teacher.

Ugh, gross.

"We will be starting to read ALL three Hunger Games books, and you will have a partner, you will read the book together, and do the assignments together, until we are done with the book, when the test comes, you will do that part alone, you and your partner should work together inside and outside of school, and I will be choosing your partners. It will be boy and girl, not girl and girl, or boy and boy, this will continue until we are done with all three books, and you will keep the same partner. I will be assigning your partners first thing tomorrow morning when you enter my classroom. And if you don't cooperate? Well, let's just say you'll be failing my class. " She announced.

I don't know how I was going to explain that to my dad, he's gonna have a fit! He doesn't allow any one over our house unless its his friends.

"Um?" She looked around, then her eyes landed on me. "Jennifer? Will you pass these books out for me?" Mrs. Hampton asked in a demanding tone.

No. "Sure." I didn't really have a choice anyway.

I got out of my seat, and walked up to her desk and picked up about seven books, and balanced them in my hands, I started handing them out to the class, when I got to Calvin's desk, I put the book on his desk, and walked past, next thing you know I was flying to the floor, face first, I tried to stop the impact with my hand, but some how in the process, my wrist got twisted back, and I heard a crack.

I felt blood on my tongue, and pain in my wrist.

"Ahhh!" I cried out.

Then I heard laughing. Like lots of laughing, while I was laying on the ground holding my wrist, bawling my eyes out.

"Are you stupid?! Her wrist is probably broke, and she has a busted lip, and all of you are sitting here laughing?! Dude, why did you trip her?" I heard Calvin's voice say.

"Lighten up man, we're just having some fun. " I heard Calvin's friend say. I think his name is James.

I felt someone pick me up, but my eyes were blurry from the tears, and I couldn't wipe them because my other hand was holding my broken wrist.

"Mrs. Hampton, she needs to go to the nurse. " Calvin said.

"Yes, you take her there, I'll take care of this!"

I'm guessing we were out of the classroom because the noises were gone. But I could still here Mrs. Hampton saying "Who ever is responsible for this, will be suspened!"

I felt him shift me in his arms, then he wiped my tears.

I flinched back, "I'm not gonna hurt you Jennifer. " He said in a soft voice.

That's what my father said.

I could finally see now, and we were close to the nurses office. When my dad finds out about this, he's gonna be furious, because he doesn't like anyone hurting me except him, and he'd have to leave work early.

We finally walked into the nurses office, and Calvin sat me down on the chair. The nurse, Ms. Concord asked what happened, and Calvin told her.

"Okay, let's take a look at that wrist. " She said coming over to me.

I let go out my wrist, and she slowly picked it up, she started examining it, then said "This is bad.. I think its broken. You have to go to the hospital sweetie." She told me in a soft voice.

"I'll take her!" Calvin said.

"Calvin, come with me to the office, and I'll tell the secretary to give you a pass to leave school. Don't think you'll always be able to do this though. " She said.

He got up and walked out behind the nurse and all I could think about was my father, and what he would say when we got home. Maybe break my other wrist.

Calvin came back into the room with a slip and my bag in his hands, "Ready?" No.

"Uh-huh.."

He came and picked me up again, "Um, my wrist is broken not my feet.. " I said in a low voice.

"I know." He smiled. "I just wanted to pick you up."

I rolled my eyes.

"The school has already called your father, he said he'd meet us at the hospital."

"When he gets there you may leave."

"What? No."

By now we were already heading towards my car. He put me down and I got in the passenger seat, he took the keys out my bag, and started up the car.

What is my father gonna say?
