He led them to the thing that's going to be very meaningful for this story; the door.
"Get on it Rose" he shouted.
He tried to get on it too, but failed, so they both fell off. Rose got onto it once again.
"Stay on it Rose" he said, not really knowing what to do with himself.
Than he went to the side of the door where Rose had her head. He grabbed her hand and said:
"You'll be right now" laying his forehead against her.
Both were shaking.
"You have to get on it too" Rose said after getting her breath back.
"It's best this way -" Jack started, but Rose interrupted.
"No, Jack!".
She kissed his hands that were lying in hers.
"Please" she said and looked deeply into his eyes.
He waited a second and than went back to the side where Rose just came up. Rose moved to the opposite side of the door to make it easier for Jack to get on it.They succeeded.
Now they were lying against each other on the door, shaking and breathless. Rose lay her forehead against Jack's and lay her hand on his cheek and caressed it to say thank you.
Jack laid his hand on Rose's back and they got carefully, to being sure not to capsize, closer until they could embrace each other, Rose with her arm around Jack's waist and her head against his chest, Jack with his arm on Rose's nape and his head over hers. Jack stroke his hand over Rose's hair, tried to make both of them a little less worried about what was going to happen next. The only thing they could do now was waiting for a possible rescue. They had no idea how long it could take. Maybe one minute, one hour, or maybe, for the rest of their lives. They had no idea how long they had been lying on that door either. They had totally lost their sense of time.
It had become very quiet. No one were panicking anymore, no one were able to scream, cry or move. Everyone who still was alive were too cold to do that.
Rose looked up towards the sky. There were a lot of stars shining brightly this night. Maybe it's for them who have died on the sea tonight, she thought. If Jack would die, he would shine the brightest, and Rose wished that she could shine beside him.Jack peered out over the sea. He saw people with lifebelts in the water. They couldn't possibly be alive, they floated too still.
Jack couldn't feel his own body, and he doubted he could move his body or speak either. He heard himself shiver, but for him, it felt like he did nothing. He saw things with his eyes, but it didn't felt realistic at all. It could have been a dream. He began to doubt if he still was alive. Maybe he was on his way to heaven.
He closed his eyes.
