Jack had been taken to a room for sick and damaged people on Carpathia, the rescue ship. (Well, in this case, it was for extra sick and damaged people). He did nothing but shook during the whole journey to the ship. He and Rose had been lying on the bottom of the boat during the way. Rose, who had hold on Jack from behind, had been very worried about him. Now he was lying, wrapped into a planket, in a bed that not seemed to be comfortable at all, according to Rose. She sat on a stool next to him, wrapped in a blanket too.
There were other passages in the room. For example an older man who seemed to be in a badly shock, because the nurses couldn't reach out to him. However, his eyes seemed to be out of control, because they moved in a rarely way. There was also a little boy who seemed to be very cold too, just like Jack, because he shock without saying anything.Rose noticed it was getting light outside, which meant that it was morning. What a night she just got through. Probably, it was her most horrible night in her life. The ship of dreams had sunk. Many people had died and Rose had seen too many of them. It was a disaster, a terrible one. Rose often cried without knowing why, but now, when she thought she was suppose to do it, she couldn't. Instead, she sat on the stool and peered out through the window, watching the raindrops hit the glass.
It was a clock hanging on the wall in the room. Now, it showed half past eight. A nurse came into the room.
"We're expected to arrive in New York within a hour" she said.
She looked like Rose's mother. That reminded Rose that her mother, her fiancé Cal and the rest of her family may be on Carpathia too.
"Is everything alright miss?" the nurse said.
Rose found herself stearing at the nurse.
"Yes" she said, upwoken from her thoughts.
She thought about if she wanted to see her family again. She had a perfect chance to escape now - if she wanted to. She hated Cal, no doubt. But her mother. She both hated her mother and loved her. During all these years, her mother had made her felt so much guilt for not being the daughter she wanted her to be. But Rose still had some good memories with her mother from her childhood. For example when they got on a theatre together when Rose was really young, and Rose got all her mother's attention, because no one else were their company, or one day when Rose and her mother played find the key together, because the babysitter was sick. Rose remembered those day with joy. But than, she thought about her 9:th birthday, when her mother told her that it was time for her to grow up and stop playing with dolls, and threw away all of her dolls, even her favourite ones that she really loved. She also thought about when she was 14 and her mother told her that she had to start going on a diet to become more attractive so that a rich man sometime could marry her. As a teenager, Rose had very easy to gain weight. She literally starved herself during a whole week, and during a very long time, she ate almost nothing. She remembered how much she cried and how much she hated her own body. All this, just to live up to her mother's expectations, just to let her mother skip feeling ashamed of the family.Rose turned to Jack. His beautiful eyes were still closed, his lips rested gently against each other. He was the most loving and genuine man she had ever met. He was perfect in so many ways. How could she even hesitate of not choosing him? She smiled. He seemed to wake up. She caressed his cheek.
"Good morning Jack" she said.
