Kenneth and I agreed that he'd be at my place for 7:30 pm. We'd watch TV, talk, watch a movie, and if he was tired, he could spend the night here on the couch.

Am I nervous? Yeah, naturally.

Am I excited?

Yes. Yes beyond human comprehension.

Besides, there'll finally be someone else around the house to keep me company.

It's 7:23. I'm still preparing the food, and it'll only be ready for a bit after he gets here, since he probably wouldn't fancy a cold meal that's been waiting on the table for too long.

I kill the remainder of my wait by cleaning up a bit, even though I already keep my house relatively tidy. Some extra neatness never hurt anyone.

At last, the time comes, and Kenneth's car backs into my driveway right on time. I hear the click of the car door opening and closing as I take a few deep breaths. Everything will be fine.

I hear a knock on the door, and taking one last deep breath, I swing the door open and greet my friend.

"Hey Kenneth! Come on in," I announce enthusiastically.

"Hey dude!" he says while entering and closing the door behind him. He's holding a laptop case. "How are y- Holy shit, were you expecting royalty tonight or something? This place is so clean!" he exclaims, looking around.

"Oh, I'm flattered, thank you! I just keep the house tidy."

"I like it, I like it a lot. But I feel bad now, I wanted you to relax and not have to do any work! I never even considered you preparing. Man, I'm sorry."

"No, no, don't be! I like it this way better."

"Oh? Well, I guess that's alright. Anyways, I smell something good cooking," says Kenneth, taking his shoes off.

"That would be the chicken wings. I can heat up the nachos whenever you want them. What's with the laptop?"

"Oh, I have a few movies downloaded on there. I can hook it up to your TV easily."

"Sweet. What kind of movies were you thinking?"

"Me? I already put you through the trouble of cleaning and cooking and preparing. You deserve to choose what we watch. Unless you don't want to."

"Well, what sort of genres are you into?"

"Comedy, crime, and action, mainly. You?"

"Same here! God, for a second I thought we were going to hate each other's preferences and that it would ruin the night."

"Ha! This night being ruined, what a joke."

Kenneth and I laugh as he takes a seat on the couch, and I check on the wings in the kitchen adjacent to the living room.

"I like your house, it's very cozy and pleasant."

"Oh, thanks. I'd like to check out yours sometime."

We've both seen the outside of each other's houses before to give the other a drive to work once in a while if needed, but surprisingly, we've never been inside each other's places.

"I can't believe that it's taken us this long to finally go to one of our houses," I say with a chuckle.

"Yeah, crazy. Glad to finally get around to it."

"Yeah. Hey, you can flip around through the TV channels to find something to watch."

"Alright."
