"Hey, Donnie we're back!" A voice yelled. I look at the doors.
Uh-oh.
"Whatcha do while we were gone?" Another one asked.
"Oh, you know stuff." Donnie spoke.
He didn't go on patrol? Is he sick?
"Well, we stopped a couple of mugging," The first voice said. "Save this girl, but she screamed and ran off like they all do." I went to the lab doors and see Donnie. He fumbling with a water. He sees me. I give a look of worry and he gives it back.
"So you guys are back early," Donnie said. His brother with the blue mask, I think his name was Leo put his hand on his shoulder.
"We were worried about you Donnie," Leo said. "You seemed so out of it when we left."
"Oh that. Pfft. I'm better now. Why don't you guys go back out?" Donnie suggested. "You know clear your mind. Walk under the stars. Breath in the fresh air." Someone laughed.
"Your funny D." He said. I see the orange mask. Mikey. Donnie chuckled nervously and went toward the lab. He got to the door when he was stopped.
"Donnie why don't you hang out here with us. Get out of that lab for a bit." Leo said. Donnie gave me a look. He sighed knowing he wouldn't win with his brother. He never does.
"Okay, but just let me grab something." He said. He jumped into the lab fast and closed the door. "Ugh, I should've known they'd come home early." He was whispering.
"You didn't go on patrol?" I whispered back. He just giggled. He handed me the water.
"The only way for me to get you out us when they're asleep. I won't be able to bring you home until 3. So your gonna wanna fall asleep." He whispered. "There's a door over there that leads to my room. Feel free to borrow my bed." I nod. He gives me a smile before leaving.
I take the opportunity to look around. He has so many inventions. I walk to his desk. He has a lot of pictures. Most of them are his family. Some of them are April. He even had one with him, his brothers, April and Casey. I looked at it. Casey had his arm slung over April's shoulder. I wipe my face at the tears. I remember the medicine and take it.
I go to the door and see his room. It's a mess. I groan and step in.
"Donnie," I said. There was paperwork everywhere. I sigh and start organizing it. It took 20 minutes but his room was clean enough. I had his paperwork in piles on his desk. I sat on his bed and it bounces. It was soft. I yawn as a wave of tiredness washes over me.
I lay down in his bed and wrap myself in the blanket. I sigh and slowly fall asleep.
"Ash. Ash." A voice said. I was being shaken lightly. I open my eyes and see Donnie. "Come on. Hurry. They fell asleep." I got up and stretched. "Did-did you clean my room?"
"Next time you have a guest, clean it beforehand," I spoke as I stood up.
"Sorry, but I wasn't expecting to save you." He said. I give him a small glare before laughing. We went back through the door. He stood in front of me just in case his brothers woke up. He opened the lab doors and we began to walk out.
"Guys!" Casey yelled. Donnie pushes me back in. Giving me a sorry far before slamming the door closed. I lay there on the ground my hands on my stomach. Rethinking this friendship.
"What is it?" I hear tired voices ask.
"My friend Ash never came home last night," Casey said.
"What?" A voice asked.
"I'm sure she's fine," Donnie said.
"Donnie, she could be in trouble," Casey said.
"Why do you care?" Donnie asked. I sat up. The venom he shot at Casey was shocking.
"Why would I care? She's my friend!" Casey exclaimed.
"Just a friend?" Donnie asked. I felt like crying. Why is he calling me a friend?
"What are we playing 20 questions? We need to find her!" Casey said. I heard his steps come closer and closer. "Donnie, could we track her phone?"
"Well yeah, but the equipment is in my lab," Donnie said.
"Well let's go in there," Leo said.
"We can't!" Donnie exclaimed. I hid under his desk.
"Why not?" Another voice asked.
"It's a mess in there." He said. I took a quick look around. He lied. This room was cleaner than his actual room.
"Step aside shell brain." The voice said. I heard the door open. I held my breath as they entered the lab. I heard Donnie let out a relieved sigh.
"We can search on my computer," Donnie said. He walked over and for in the chair. He froze when he saw me. He plays it off and just rolls closer. "Um, everyone stays on that side. I need to concentrate." He types something on his computer while having glanced at me every now and then. "Whats her number?" Casey told him but it was incorrect. The face Donnie had shown he knew it to be wrong too. "You sure?"
"Of course I am, why wouldn't I be?" Casey asked.
"Just checking," Donnie said. Had typed in something else and proceeded the lie about where I was.
"Alright let's go," Leo said.
"I'm gonna stay here," Donnie said. "I'll call you if she moves."
"Okay. Keep us updated." Leo said. And then the door closes. Donnie sighs.
"They're gone." He said. I let out a relieved sigh and get out from under the desk. "Let's get you home." We leave. He drops me off at home and I lay down to finish sleep. Sadly my alarm clock wouldn't let me sleep past 6.
