"Imagine seeing you here," Jeff says casually.
"We don't want any trouble," I say. "We're just here on a date, that's all. And besides, I didn't do shit to hurt you."
"True ... But Habit's a hard guy to get to. Unless he has you."
"You aren't really Jeff, he's not this cold-hearted. He's nice and sweet."
"No, that was the person I was before he killed me. Now, I'm different. I've changed."
"Okay, well, enjoy the punch," I say. I step around him, but he grabs my wrist. Hard. "Let me go now or I'll scream."
He looks at me, and I see his eyes are tinged with red. But it doesn't scare me, the redness in his eyes, it just pisses me off. I glare at him hard. He lets me go and I walk away.
But I see the Dogs lurking around Habit, who's in a hunched position, ready to charge.
I remember the suits coming after me and Vinny in the parking lot - I remember how relentless they were. If we fight the Dogs here ... More suits will come for sure.
I walk over to Habit as fast and casually as I can. I take his hand, and he turns to face me.
"We've got to go, like right now. We can't fight them. Not here, it's too public. There's already people poking around, we got to go."
One Dog starts towards us and I take Habit's hand and pull him along through the thick crowd. He doesn't say a word as we walk. I open the door for us and stop.
They're at the car.
"Run," I whisper.
"I'm not running," he says.
"We have no choice," I say.
I take off running and into the woods, heart pounding. This is just like in my dreams. And that's not a good thing. But lucky for me, I have Habit. He nudges me forward, and I swear he's getting ready to kill someone.
We run and run until finally, the Dogs stop chasing us.
Habit and I finally stop running when I fall, and he lands on top of me. I gasp as he looks into my eyes. He looks so protective of me that I giggle delusionally. He smirks. I think we both know where this is going.
