One week until the wedding. One freaking week.
You'd think that that wouldn't be a long time for me, but it is. I teleport to my friend Alex's house, she and I were best friends before all of this. Once I tell her the brief version of what's been going on, she squeals with delight.
"You're getting married and having his kids? That's great!"
"Yeah," I say as we get in her car and head into town together.
"But ... how are you getting married?"
"The ... usual way?"
"But Habit can't enter a church, and doesn't have a last name," she says.
"Uh, he can. And I'm taking Evan's."
"Wait, so Evan is okay with this?" Alex asks.
"I don't know, I'm not the one possessing him, but this is not ... it's just a wedding."
"Your wedding, might I add."
"I'm aware it's my wedding," I say. "I just have kinda been all over lately. Haven't gotten the chance to really realize it yet. To even shop for a dress."
"Oh my God," she says. "You haven't picked out a dress? Didn't you say that there's a week left till your wedding?"
"Ugh. Yes. And I don't have a dress."
"Well then that's what we're going to do today. Get you a dress."
"You don't have to," I say.
"I want to. That's what friends are for, aren't they?"
"Okay," I say. "Let's do it."
