As Neville, Luna, and I shuffled into the Great Hall, I nervously glanced at the seat for the headmaster. As I had feared, Snape had taken the late Dumbledore's place. Next to him, where McGonagall should have been, sat a strangely familiar man.
"Hogwarts isn't what it used to be, is it?" Luna asked, the question directed to nobody in particular.
"No," I replied timidly. "Not at all."
"What'll we do?" Neville chimed in.
"Isn't that the question!" I answered, forcing out a fake chuckle.
Luna moved towards the Ravenclaw table, never once taking her eyes off the two new professers surrounding Snape. I could already tell that this year would be awful.
"Silence!" exclaimed a commanding voice. Snape was standing now, his arms stretched wide, a stern expression etched into the stone that was his face. "Now, before the Sorting Hat begins, there are some changes to the school that the students must know." I could only imagine what Fred and George would do if they were here. "First off, you have two new professers, Professer Carrow and Professer...erm...Carrow. Dark Arts and Muggle Studies." Dark Arts? " You will treat them with respect, for they are now in charge of most detentions. The curfew has also changed. All students are to be in their house common rooms or dormitories by 7:00. Understood? Good. Now, Professor McGonagall, you may continue."
I didn't touch my food all night. Was this how Hogwarts was going to be for the rest of the year? I was lost in my thoughts, and I didn't realize it until 7:01.
"What are you doing, young lady?" the voice of a rather obviously insane person called. I turned around. The D. A. D. A. Professer Carrow was walking towards me. "Are you aware, Miss Weasley, that you are wandering aimlessly through the halls PAST CURFEW?"
"I don't mean to be rude, sir, but how do you know my name?" I quickly responded.
"DETENTION! Starting tomorrow, detention for a week!" Carrow screamed.
"What did I..."
"TWO weeks, blood traitor scum. Want me to make it three?" Carrow snarled.
"No, that's quite alright."
"Right, then. Two weeks detention starting tomorrow as soon as classes end, at 5:30. Understood?"
"Yes, sir."
Thankfully, with that, Carrow walked away. I swiftly proceeded to my common room, checking behind my back for the other Carrow. I gave the password to the Fat Lady, and I entered the common room. Many of my friends and some new first years were lounging on the various chairs and sofas, but I didn't feel like socializing. Besides, I had a letter to write.
