Chapter 18—Being Crushed By A Bear

We were immediately greeted by our mothers when we arrived at the airport. Nothing changed for their physical appearance except I noticed my mom’s eyebrows growing a little. Don’t ask me how the hell did I notice even that tiny detail. It’s not like I was the one who pulled her into a tight hug and talked to me while cupping my face four inches away from her face.

Their hug was really, really tight. I found it hard to breathe after a few seconds of being engulfed in their hug. I’m pretty sure Andrew felt like being crushed by a bear too.

“How was your honeymoon?”  Thomas asked, smiling at us as he took my bag from his son. “Was it…fun?”

“Really fun” Andrew smiled at his dad. His smile looked similar to his dad. Aside from their hair colour, his smile is something he got from his dad.

“It was lovely.” I added enthusiastically. “Hi, dad.” I greeted my dad as I saw him walk towards our direction. He casually grinned and waved back at me before placing the car keys on his pocket.

“Are you ready to go home now?” My dad asked, wiggling his eyebrows at us.

“I miss my room already.” I mumbled, pouting a little. I miss lying down on my bed. I also miss staring at the faded paints on my ceiling every night I couldn’t sleep yet.

“Oh, who told you you’re going to go back to our house?” dad asked. His eyebrows were up. He was exchanging looks with my mother and Andrew’s parents.

“Are we staying in my room then?” Andrew asked, trying to connect the dots.

“Well, you’ll see where your new room would be, son.” Thomas grinned at Andrew as he casually slung a hand over his shoulder. “Now, hop on so you two could take a rest.”

The ride in the car wasn’t awkward. It wasn’t deafening. It was normal, actually. Our parents didn’t ask much about the details of our honeymoon. Probably scared that the answer would be related to our sexual experiences that would be awkward, wouldn’t it? Andrew and I shared nothing more than that kiss at the cruise so our answers would be almost about the adventures we had in Hawaii.

“Where are we going?” I asked when I noticed that we just passed by our houses. I mean the houses where Andrew and I grew up. I was looking around and our parents all had this similar look on their faces.

“Wait…I think I get it…we are…” Andrew mumbled looking at our mothers seated beside us. My dad was driving and Thomas was the one riding shot gun.

Before Andrew could finish and gather his thoughts, we halted into a stop. We were just a few blocks away from our parent’s home. “We’re here.” My dad said as he jumped out of the car.

Andrew and I quickly jumped out of the car. I immediately noticed a medium-sized house. It was a two-storey cream-colored house. I also noticed the open garage and recognized Andrew’s car parked in it.

“Welcome to your new home.” Our parents announced in unison. I wonder how many times they have practiced that line. They always fail trying to say things in unison. They’d always signal each other on three and one would speak on three while the other would speak after three.

“T-this is ours?” I asked. My eyes were wide, trying to process the news that has just been told to us. Our parents bought us a house? “Y-you bought this…for us?”
