"How about we raise the stakes?"
"Sure, as long as we use my dice."
This was a first. You'd gambled many times before. Anyone this confident, willing to bet the entirety of what's inside their casino had to have a few tricks up their sleeve. Not only that but, having the title "The Devil" wasn't helping his situation either.
He displayed a lopsided grin. "How do I know your dice aren't rigged?" You leaned over the craps table. "I could ask you the same question, Mister."
By now, the whole casino was listening in, workers and all. Nobody had ever challenged the Devil in this way. If he'd been winning in order to gain soul contracts of others, every damn time, then it was clear to you that something wasn't right. And the only thing possibly keeping everyone else from winning was his pair of dice specifically.
"If we use yours, I roll first."
"It's a deal."
You two shook on it. The Devil had come to terms with you just as he had the others, all the money in his casino, or your soul.
The blue nosed boy who was hosting a game in the back table was still rambling on about rules and such, "And if you so happen to try.." He looked up. Nobody was there anymore. Everyone was gathered around one specific crap table.
Oh boy. He'd better keep an eye on this mysterious person. The Devil was always up to no good. He was allowed to have his opinion, even if he worked for the Casino.
The Devil was currently rolling, keeping his sly eyes on his opponent, you. You had no tricks, no gimmicks. Just a lot of luck.
He rolled.
"Snake eyes." Mugman murmured, eyes widening by the second.
The Devil himself was shocked. A human had waltzed in here and beaten him at his own game. The rest of the viewers were heard hooting and hollering. Somebody had actually beat the Devil!
You gave a toothy grin. A deal was a deal, but this guy seemed like a sore loser in the making. "Tell ya what," You adjusted the hat you wore. "I don't want all the luxuries this casino has to offer, really. Gimme a couple grand, and I'll call it a day, mister." You negotiated.
Goodness gracious, they are classy.. Thought the mug to himself.
The Devil was interrupted from thoughts by his right hand- right hand dice? Right hand cube.. Right hand man I guess kind of fits.
"It's a deal." He grumbled.
He looked at the dapper dice, "It's coming out of your paycheck though." To which the man soon followed the Devil, trying to help him understand how unfair that was. Looks like they were both sore losers.
After the overhyping of your win settled down, you took a seat in the bar area. You only sipped from a glass of water though.
"Um, excuse me.." The blue nosed boy hesitantly made his way up to you. You set down your glass, smiling in his direction. He blushed.
"Would you mind explaining how you won, earlier?"
Now that was a question that.. was difficult to answer.
"Sit down and I'll tell ya." You pat the seat next to you. Luckily King Dice was nowhere to be seen, so he could probably get away with.. a smidge of slacking.
"Liars and cheaters all get exposed at some point." You shrugged. Had you any other good explanation? Not really.
"That Devil's a big fat cheater, and you know it." You looked over to him. He nodded in agreement, laughing to himself. "I guess you're right."
Standing up and gathering your belongings, you sighed. "I've gotta be on my way soon.. You work here right?" "I do indeed." "We'll keep in touch. You understand things a little differently from most people."
With a wave, you were on your way.
Meanwhile Mugman stood there, watching you as you left, practically falling over his broom, heart eyes and a dopey little grin.
"They're perfect.."
"Boy, you betta' get back to work!"
"Ah! Sorry sir!"
