Twenty years ago:

Jungkook-6 years old
Taehyung-4 years old

The small boy sniffed back tears as he picked himself up out of the dirt. The other children at the playground had sneered at him when he asked to join their game, before laughing and pushing him to the ground.

"Who would ever want to play with you? You're such a crybaby!"

As they ran away from him, the boy felt his eyes burning with unshed tears. He wanted so badly to let the tears fall, but remembered the boy's mocking insult.

"I don't want to be a crybaby..."

"Are you ok?", a voice piped up from behind him.

Turning to face the voice, the crying boy was surprised to see another boy. He looked older than him, with raven-black hair, porcelain skin, jet eyes, and thin pink lips.

'He looks like a doll', he thought to himself. Out loud, he hesitantly answered the boy's question. "Um, I'm fine."

The boy tilted his head, peering closely at the boy, his eyes filled with concern. "Are you sure? You look like you're gonna cry. Did those kids do something to you?"

The smaller boy swallowed, a lump filling his throat at the obvious worry in the older boy's voice. He wasn't used to anyone caring or worrying about him. Meeting the new boy's eyes, he was unable to keep his tears from spilling over his cheeks. Trying to hold back a sob, he was surprised to find himself wrapped in warm arms, his damp face pressed into the bigger boy's chest.

The older boy gently patted his back, making soothing noises to calm the crying younger down. After a minute, he rested his cheek on the smaller boy's silky, caramel colored hair and smiled. "My name's Jungkook."

The young boy sniffed and reached up to wrap his arms around Jungkook's back. He couldn't remember anyone ever hugging him like this, or bothering to console him when he cried. His voice, when it came, was soft, and muffled by the sweater he was cuddled against. "I'm Taehyung."

Fifteen years ago:

Jungkook and Taehyung had been inseparable ever since. Every day, Jungkook would show up outside Tae's house, tossing pebbles at his window to get him to come outside. Jungkook had made it known to all the kids in their school and neighborhood that the smaller boy was under his protection, and for the most part everyone now treated Taehyung with respect. Jungkook was still a child, but he was already strong and intimidating.

*tick* *tick* *tick*
Hearing the familiar sound of pebbles against glass, Taehyung smiled and peered out his window, waving at the sight of his best friend. Running downstairs, he glanced at where his adoptive parents sat staring at the TV. He didn't even consider telling them he was going outside to play. He knew by now they wouldn't care. His parents never hit him, but they showed not an iota of interest in their son's life. As long as he was home before too late, and didn't cause them any hassle, they didn't care what he did. Sometimes he wondered why they'd bothered adopting him at all.

Reaching where his friend patiently waited, Taehyung tackled the larger boy in a tight hug, his voice squealing in happiness, "Kookie! I missed you!"

Jungkook laughed, returning the tight hug, "We just saw each other yesterday Tae!"

Tae pouted, "I know, but I always miss you when you're not around Kookie!"

The older boy grinned. No one else was allowed to call him "Kookie", that name was only for his Tae. Taking the smaller boy's soft hand in his own larger one, he pulled him along to go play.

Ten years ago:

Jungkook glared, his eyes narrowing on the sight of his Tae surrounded by their friends. Over the years, they had gradually gathered a close-knit group of friends whom Jungkook usually enjoyed hanging out with. But right now, Hoseok was sitting far to close to Taehyung, and was even resting his head on the younger boy's shoulder. And even worse, Tae wasn't doing anything to push him away!

At 14, Tae was the youngest of their group. The oldest was a 17 year old named Seokjin, followed by Hoseok, then Namjoon, Jungkook, Jimin, and last came Tae. Not only was Tae the youngest, but he was the softest of their group. He was a sweet and gentle boy, and the other members of their clique all worked to protect the youngest, becoming the family he'd never really had. Despite this, it was well known to all of them that Jungkook was the closest to Tae. Their relationship was more than friendship, more than family; although the sweet young boy was naively unaware of how Jungkook looked at him.

Gritting his teeth, Jungkook strode over to where Taehyung sat eating his lunch. Clearing his throat, he glowered at Hoseok as the red-haired boy grinned knowingly up at him, enjoying teasing the ravenette. "Tae, can I talk to you? Alone?" His voice came out gruffer than he wanted, irritation at the two's closeness apparent in his tone.

Tae looked up at the older, curiosity and concern in his doe eyes as he nodded. "Of course Kookie."

Grabbing the smaller boy's hand, Jungkook dragged him from the cafeteria and down the hall, finally finding a dark and empty classroom. Locking the door behind them, he turned to face his best friend. Taking him in, he couldn't help but marvel at how lovely the younger was. His features were fine and delicate, his body slim. He was prettier than any girl at the school, and Jungkook was tired of having to watch as both girls and boys tried to gain his Tae's attention. Taking a deep breath, he stepped closer to the boy, close enough he could smell the clean scent of the other's shampoo. "Tae, I need to, um, tell you something. For a long time now, I've, um, been...in love with you. Not just like a best friend, but like, I really love you."

Daring to lift his eyes to Tae's wide chocolate ones, he saw that he'd obviously surprised the younger boy. Reaching out to tentatively take the other's slim fingers in his own, he continued,"I hate seeing when other people are clingy with you. I know I shouldn't, but I can't help it. And I know you might not feel the same way about me-" He's cut off by soft lips pressing against his own, shocking him into stillness for a moment.

Just a moment though.

Realizing that Tae, his Tae, was kissing him and not rejecting his confession, Jungkook brought his hands up to gently hold the smaller boy's cheeks as he kissed him back. Their lips moved against each other and Tae hesitantly wrapped his arms around to embrace the taller boy. He'd longed to be more than his Kookie's friend for so long, but never thought someone like him could ever have Jungkook's heart. Pressing himself tighter against the older, he held back happy tears at the thought that his favorite person in the world loved him back.
