9:32pmLee watched him. Never had she seen someone so... amazing. The way his eyes looked so thoughtful. The way he seemed so comfortable doing things, yet he was still awkward in doing it. He was quirky and had a lopsided smile whenever he spoke. His tone was so sophisticated and intelligent, yet casual. He was intelligent and a good student, but fun and laid back. He told such amazing jokes and puns which Lee appreciated for their cleverness, whereas the other elementals and everyone else just rolled their eyes.
Lee was staring at him in class. Well, that sounds creepy. Lee was admiring him in class. Nevermind, that's even creepier. Regardless, she had her chin resting on her hand as her eyes gazed at him. In between other's heads, there he was, sitting in his chair. Just the sight of him made her heart flutter. God, she was hopeless. Lee smiled whenever she thought of him. She repeated his voice saying her name in her head. She thought of the way he'd come over to her and so effortlessly be able to strike up a conversation with her. Whereas whenever she tried to talk to him, she got too flustered and anxious and decided against it before even walking his way.
Lee was in it too deep. She'd think about how she'd glance over at him and catch him looking at her as their eyes caught for a moment. She'd think about how he talked to her more and more each day, even if it was only a couple of sentences. She'd fawn over the mere thought that he might even have the slightest interest in her. Although, deep down, she knew it wasn't true.
The eye contact was just by coincidence; he just happened to be looking in her direction at that exact time. He only talked her about once every other day; she was no special. He treated every girl like her. He was no nicer, no kinder, no more caring to her than to any other girl. She was nothing special. Lee was just being ridiculous.
But that didn't stop her heart from skipping a beat whenever she saw him.
It was useless for an Elemental to fall in love (if you could even call it that) with a human. As an Elemental, she'd surely outlive him or die too soon. Elementals were completely different beings than humans, surely it wouldn't work. He'd ask about her family, her origin, her background, and how would she respond? She couldn't just keeping pushing it away or lying to him. He'd find out eventually. He'd find out her secret.
Her love for him would interfere with her work and sway her preferences. Plus, Lee was only at this highschool for a bit. She and the Elementals never stayed in one place for too long; they'd always get their jobs done quickly and move on to the next problem, usually miles away. Even if Lee did manage to somehow win this boy's heart, what then? How would she maintain their relationship? She'd probably never see him again once her job at the high school was done.
Although the sad reality hit Lee, it didn't stop her. It didn't stop her and her big, soft, thousands-of-years-old heart from falling for this boy. She still dreamt of him while she slept, doodled him in her notebooks, daydreamed up scenarios, and admired him in class. Lee wasn't obsessed with this boy, but he sure did pop up in her mind from time to time.
Lee didn't know how to feel about all this. Well, she did. She felt admiration for the boy, a love for him, if you will. But all the doubts and "what ifs" made her hesitate. They held her back. She didn't know whether to listen to them or not. Of course, the fairytales always said "follow your heart!" But from living for thousands of years, Lee knew better. Yet, how come now it was so hard to listen to reason and logic when she clearly knew it was right?
Whatever. Lee decided not to think too hard about it. It would work itself out eventually... right? I mean, it always did in the end, didn't it? All those years of saving the world, things went right and were for the best. Maybe it'd work out in this case too. Lee could only hope as her already big heart grew larger for this boy.
