Chapter 7: Kids

Hey everyone! So, school's back once again, unless you have already started in the beginning of the month. Or you might be in my situation, where you have not started school yet.

Nevertheless, I hope everyone will have a great rest of their school days, and may you all do well in your studies. Gotta step it up with college application season starting again.

Natsu watched as the beast slowly lost consciousness. Its body falling forward with a loud thud as it peeled away from the boulder it crashed in to. Letting the flames he enveloped his fists in dissipate into thin air, he turned his attention to Lucy and the young boy she held in her arms. 

Realizing that Lucy was losing consciousness, Natsu immediately rushed over, catching her fallen body in his arms.

With a sigh of relief, Natsu shifted his position so that his partner could rest comfortably on his lap. The first thing he  noticed after getting comfortable was the state of the young boy in Lucy's arms. He was shivering in fear and sobbing quietly to himself. Poor thing was so scared that he probably did not even realize what had happened just now.

"Natsu-nii!"

At the call of his name, Natsu looked over his shoulder to see Romeo and Happy rushing over. Both of them greeted happily greeted him, feeling relief that the dragon slayer was unharmed.

At the sight of Lucy's unconscious body, Happy immediately flew over to her side. The exceed was quite confused to see a stranger sobbing on top of Lucy.

"Who's that?" Romeo asked Natsu as he pointed at the stranger.

"Not sure," Natsu retorted with the same amount of confusion as the others. His gaze wandered back to Lucy and the young boy. Natsu's expression softened at the sight of the young boy clutching onto Lucy so tightly, as if he was looking for comfort and guidance. "I think Lucy saved him during the beast attack."

Natsu gently moved Lucy's upper body so that she laid flat on the ground. Then he moved over so that he hovered directly over the young boy. With the same gentleness from before, Natsu placed his hand on the young boy's head, ruffling his short silver hair ever so slightly. He felt the young boy jolt under his touch. Following that jolt did the young boy finally tear himself away from Lucy, and turning his head directly at Natsu.

"I finally caught your attention," Natsu said with a soft smile on his face as he retracted his hand back to his side. The young boy just stared at him, frightened, yet confused.

Short silver hair that slightly covered his large forehead. Complementing his forehead was a pair of large yellow green eyes, which widened at the sight of the dragon slayer. Those eyes were also spilling large tears that trailed down his puffy cheeks.

"Hey, it's alright now," Natsu said with a soft tone as he wiped away the boy's tears with his thumb. The boy still shook in fear under the dragon slayer's touch.

"M-M-My...F-Father..."

"Must be that old man we found on the way here," Romeo pointed out as he crossed his arms across his chest.

"Is he alright?" Natsu asked as he comforted the young boy.

"Wendy and Carla are helping him as we speak," Happy responded as he looked back to where they found the old man.
