TRUE LOVE NEVER DIES :Chapter Three.
Mercy was just becoming a sharp pain on my neck. She was extremely rude to me and I felt that she was going overboard. She would deny me food and still expect me to work. Mike had told her that he was paying me on monthly basis and I guess this pained her so much. She did not want me to be happy. She saw me as a threat to her relationship with Mike not knowing that she was actually the one intruding. She made it clear to me that she was the only one allowed to cook the food in that house a clear indication that she had plans to keep denying me food. What a heartless person she was. I wondered where Mike had collected her from. She even made Mike become a carefree man.
One evening when she set the table and called Mike for supper, I overheard Mike asking her why I no longer took food together with them and she told him that I usually took my food early which was not the case. They would eat the food and I would be the one to wash the dishes. I had to think of something to do really fast because I had to punish her in one way or another.
I waited for one evening when they were set on the dining table to have supper and then went to sit with them. I took a plate and served Mike and then served myself. She had cooked food for only two and so on this particular day she would also sleep hungry like I used to. I munched the food with so much pleasure smiling at every glance at her. Mercy was looking at me furiously but I did not mind her. She lied to mike that she had already taken her food earlier when he asked her why she was not eating. I guessed she suspected that if she told him that I was not included in that meal, I would expose her.
This went on for some time until I could not take it any longer. I could find her lying on Mike on the couch while watching the television. They didn’t care whether I was in the house or not. I became overwhelmingly jealous and was angered by their behavior. I overheard her telling Mike that the money he was giving me was so much for a house help not knowing that he was actually compensating me for the job he had advised me to quit. She requested that she be allowed to pay me herself and Mike agreed to this foolishly. It now dawned on me that I was doomed but I was committed to beat Mercy a her own game .It seemed to me that she wanted to exert so much pressure on me so that I would leave the house not knowing that I clearly understood her motive and monitored her every move.
I decided to go and meet Mike in the office and have a discussion with him. On arrival, the secretary told me that he was in a meeting and so I decided to wait for him. After the meeting the secretary allowed me to see him as she knew me because I used to visit Mike regularly.
“Good morning Mike” I greeted him since he now left the house without seeing me.
I was no longer the one seeing him off in the morning so at times he would leave without talking to me.
“Good morning and have a seat” he replied.
“I wish to talk to you about something” I said.
“Okay, go on and make it fast” he replied.
I then told him that I was no longer comfortable living in the main house with them and that I wanted to move in to the servant quarters because no one in that house cared about me. I asked him why he was treating me like a total stranger and I saw his eyes lower in shame as he had no answer for me. I also let him know that I could no longer work for them and that Mercy should take up the responsibility of doing the house chores by herself. I could see that he was becoming uncomfortable about this but there was barely anything he could do about it because I was so determined to move out.
“Okay, if that will please you then go ahead” he said quickly.
I was so overwhelmed because I knew that I would not be under Mercy’s bondage anymore. I was free indeed and I was going to teach her a lesson that she would never forget. I said thank you and left Mike’s office smiling all the way to the house. On arrival, I found Mercy waiting for me furiously at the door of the house. She demanded to know why I had left the house without telling her but I just stared at her with no answer at hand.
