Season one(Chapter Seven)

TRUE LOVE NEVER DIES: Chapter Seven.
    I called my grandmother that night and she told me that my brothers had taken her to the hospital and the doctor had attended to her and put her under mediation. She also said that my brothers were going back to the city the following day. I asked her how she coped with my brothers wives and she told me that she would discuss that with me when I went to visit her next. I was happy that my brothers were going to the city because I would at least visit and spend quality time with her. I would also share with her everything that transpired between me and my brothers. My grandmother loved me so much and I was quite sure that she would help me out. I was going to show her all the recordings that I had of my brothers’ wives conversation.
I told my grandmother to inform me as soon as my brothers left and she did inform me. I told her that I would visit her in a three days time but I kept in touch with her all this while. She had enough people to take care of her as she had many workers and so I was not so worried. The next morning when I woke up, there was no power in my house and when I asked to find out whether the other houses too had no power, I was told  that there was a blackout in the whole flat as the meter box had blown up. Everybody was complaining about this and so we decided to call the care taker for immediate action. The care taker told us that he would soon come and after an hour or so he arrived.
We had never seen the landlord as he always sent his care taker to do everything and so we knew him not. The care taker said that the damage was much and so the attention and presence of the landlord was needed. He called the landlord and told him that he needed to come as the situation needed his quick attention. Luckily enough, the landlord told him that he was at work but was not occupied at that moment and he promised to be there within the next thirty minutes.
True to his promise, after the thirty minutes he arrived. Everyone was eager to see him as no one had ever seen him before. I too waited anxiously to see the landlord. We saw from the balcony a very big car that looked so new park outside and a man was getting out of it. Our eyes were now glued on the car as we wanted to get a glimpse of that wealthy man who owned such a tall building. The man took a while before he could get out and when he did I could not believe my eyes. The man coming out of the car was none other than Mike.
“A small world it is.” I thought silently. “How could it be that Mike had been my landlord for that entire period without my knowledge?”  Many questions flocked my mind.
Mike was getting into the building and I could not let him see me as I was also late in paying the month’s rent. The care taker had threatened to come with the landlord so that if I didn’t make an agreement to pay, they would give me a notice to vacate the house. I went and stayed in the house praying that the landlord would just attend to the power issue and then leave. I counted every minute that passed by and after three hours were past the power was on again. I thanked God that I escaped the embarrassment as I thought that the land lord was gone after the power was repaired but I was wrong.
I heard a knock at my door and on opening it, the caretaker was standing right before me. I asked him whether there was any problem and he told me that the Landlord was coming to see me concerning the rent issue. I started sweating on hearing this and my heart was pounding so fast.
“Is everything okay with you,” the caretaker asked me as he had noticed my restlessness. “Oh yes, everything is fine.” I lied to him.
I could not believe that Mike was coming to me. After a minute at the door with the caretaker, Mike approached. I tried bending my head down so that he could not see my face properly but it was impossible do so.
“Sir this is the lady who has not yet paid the house rent” I heard the caretaker tell him.
“Madam, why is it that you have not paid the house rent up to now? Were you not given clear instructions and deadlines on when to pay the rent” he asked and then kept quiet a clear indication that he expected an answer from me.
All this time my head was lowered such that he could not see my face properly.
“ Madam answer me I am talking to you” At this point due to his harsh voice I had to look up and answer him as he demanded for answers to his questions.
I raised my head and looked at him face to face. I saw him sweat a bit after seeing my face. He just stood there looking at me in disbelieve and I knew that so many questions were running through his mind. The silence was much and I could see that the caretaker was beginning to suspect something but before he could do that I broke the silence.
“Sir I will find the money and pay you soon, but you have to give me some time to do so” I said this in a shaky voice in order to break the silence.
He just looked at me and then signaled the caretaker for a talk aside. I could see that he was giving the caretaker some orders from the way the caretaker was nodding his head. He left immediately after that without saying a word to me. I went into the house but was very disturbed. I felt like relocating from that house but I didn’t have the money to do so. Later that day, I heard a knock at the door again and I hesitated to open it. The person knocked so persistently that I had to open the door but with so many guesses on my mind as to who it could be. On opening the door, the caretaker was at the door again but this time with an envelope in his hand.
“Madam this is yours, I have been sent to give you this by the landlord”   I was not sure whether to take it but I did anyway because if I declined to take it, the caretaker would begin suspecting something.
I went and sat on my bed to read this letter. I could not believe what was in that envelop. When I opened it, the first thing that I saw inside was money. I read through the letter to know what the money was meant for. In the letter, Mike had stated that he had given me the money as compensation for the rent that I had been paying to him. He also told me that I was not supposed to pay rent as long as I lived there. I could not believe what I was reading but I knew that Mike was a good man and that it was I that had offended him.
“I was going to do my best to reunite with him” I vowed to myself. I was so happy that Mike still cared about me.
My mind was now settled because I no longer needed to think about rent and I also had money for my upkeep too.
Two days after, I was supposed to visit my grandmother. I set out very early in the morning with all the recordings that I had made of my sisters in law as I had decided to tell everything to my grandmother. She had told me that she was healed and I knew that, that was the right time to tell her before things fell out of hand.
I arrived at my grandmother’s place safely and found her waiting for me.
“How are you my baby” she greeted as she hugged me tightly. She ordered that I be given something to eat immediately as I was tired from the journey. I then sat down to chat with her.
I was dying to tell her everything and so I had to wait for the time when she was relaxed. We were talking and laughing and I saw that she was relaxed enough.
“Grandma, there is something that I want to tell you but I don’t know how to say it” I said to her in a low voice.
“You can tell me anything my daughter, I am here to help you” she said.
This really encouraged me. I started narrating everything to her. I did not hide anything not even Mike from her. She listened carefully to all what I told her and at times she would wipe my tears as I could not control them while narrating my story. She was very sympathetic with my situation. I told her that I feared telling this to her earlier as I was not sure about her health. She understood everything and was grateful that Mike had helped me out. She however told me that failure to open up to Mike was wrong and I needed to apologize to him.
“Those two women need to be exposed. They are evil. I did not even like their behavior when they visited me.” She said this shaking her head.
I asked why she said this about them and she told me that when they visited her, they stayed together all the time and all they could do was to gossip.
“I even heard them saying that they were going to punish the two men but I could not make out as to who they were referring to. It is now clear that they plan evil against my grandchildren.” she said.
“Mike! Mike should be the one to help us stop these ladies from executing their plan. I really want to meet Mike. Please take me to Mike now my daughter” she pleaded.
I could see that she was very restless and disturbed and so I tried my best to assure her that everything would be okay. I also promised to take her to Mike the next day and this somehow calmed her down. I showed her all the recordings I had made and assured her that there was nothing to worry about as I had enough proof.
