Angela Ziegler, the last princess in the Ziegler kingdom, sat on a throne of gold. An empty seat to her left. She sat in her deceased father's throne, her deceased mother's on the left.
Without someone to sit beside, the room felt empty and barren. There was Only one guard in the room, as most were out practicing in combat in case the Reyes kingdom launched an attack soon.
She let out a sigh as she leaned over one of the chair rails, dangling her legs over the other.
"Sir Genji" Angela called to her guard who stood at the bottom of the stair case that led to the thrones.

"Yes, Milady?" His voice contained a robotic overlay due to being something of a cyborg. He had suffered terrible injuries a couple years prior, ending up being saved by the Ziegler family. To repay his debts, he swore to protect the only princess, a blonde named Angela.

She looked down at him from her spot on the throne. Before answering, she stood up and stretched her arms and legs. "I shall be heading to my personal chambers now, you are released from your duty as my guard for the time being. You may join the others outside." She waited for a response that was a simple "Yes, Milady." Angela turned and left the throne room, making her way to her room.

The room was circular, a round bed across from the door, two windows to each side of the bed. The room was decorated with golden banners. A curved desk sat on the right, papers scattered about. On the left of the room, a large dresser and closet stood.
A crystal chandelier hung from the middle of the ceiling and a golden tapestry hung on the wall behind the bed.

The blonde princess strode over to the desk, looking down at the sketches that were scattered about. "I hope it's ready to be used... This will be able to help so many people..." Her slender fingers gracefully picked up one of the many papers. She held it up, a determined look in her eyes.
There were large letters that rested at the top of the paper. The letters formed several words. It read Valkyrie Swift Response Suit.
The drawing was quite detailed. It was primarily white with a golden piece of fabric in the front and back. A golden halo was also part of the outfit, along with a pair of white and gold wings. There was another piece to the whole thing. A black face mask that was able to be pulled up from the also black neck piece. It would cover from the neck to just below the eyes, keeping the wearer's identity unknown.
(A/N: yes I know Mercy doesn't actually have a mask, I'm just doing this to make it work with the story)

"I will be of use... Mercy, will be of use." Angela Ziegler carefully put the drawing down, her feet carrying her to the white, fluffy rug that was in the middle of the floor, right below the chandelier. She knelt down with her hands grabbing the edge of it. The blue eyed blonde moved it out of the way, revealing a hatch door.
Right as she was about to open it, a knock came to her door, causing her to jump a little in her skin. Quickly putting the rug back, she called out, "Yes, who is it?"

"It is Genji, Milady." The words came back from the other side of the door.

"Please come in."

The knob turned and the door was pushed open. There stood the knight, clad in metal armor, his helmet off. Although his face was scared from the incident a few years back, he still looked handsome. "Milady, the Reyes kingdom has sent word. We go to war at dawn." Genji looked at her, worry welling up in his eyes. "Milady, they... They say they will send out Talon.."

Angela's face paled. "Why would they do that? Who do they plan on killing this time?"
To her surprise, Genji knelt on one knee, looking down.

"They... They want you, Milady Angela.." His hands rested on his knee, and his eyes stayed on the ground. "But Milady, do not worry. I will be protecting you with my life."

Her eyes rested on him for a moment. "Sir Genji, there is no need for you to kneel. Stand up and look at me."

He complied. He rose to both his feet as Angela placed several fingers under his chin. She lifted, raising his head just enough to meet her eyes. He still had to look somewhat down, but he was no longer meeting the ground.

"Sir Genji, my faithful knight..." She started, her eyes locked with his. They were filled with understanding. "You mustn't worry about my well being tomorrow. You and the other knights should be worried about, as you will be the ones engaged in a perilous battle. Sir Genji, please follow Commander Morrison's instructions.
Now, Sir Genji, go get some rest."

He nodded. "As you wish..."

When he left and shut the door, the Princess let out a sigh. Tomorrow would be the day the knights met Mercy. She would put on a brave front and pretend to be someone that she was not. She would be someone to protect the knights who are protecting her kingdom. They needed support, and that's what she'd give.
As the night wasn't young, she decided to retire to bed.
Changing into her night clothes, she lifted the covers of her bed, slipping in carefully.
She closed her eyes, begging for sleep to take her into the next day.
