Angela was horrified. After suiting up in the Valkyrie Swift Response Suit, she had taken hold of the staff and followed a secret tunnel to the outside. Now, she stood on a hill overlooking the battle field.
There was a crimson liquid everywhere. The once green landscape had many, many patches of red.
She knew that there would be much blood spilled, but she didn't expect this much so quickly.
Although she could already see many corpses scattered on the ground, she knew she had to find a certain Japanese man.
Angela pulled up the black cloth that hung around her neck, pulling it up and over her nose. It's main purpose was to hide her identity from others.
She took a few paces back on the hill, giving herself some room to taking a running start from. Now would be the time to finally use the wings attached to her back. Running now, she went quickly towards the slope of the hill, jumping.
The wings spread on her back, a brilliant golden light coming from them. They allowed a graceful and slow descent down the hill and towards the battle. If she were to give them support, she would have to be brave. Braver than she'd ever been.
On her way down, her eyes scouted the field. She was looking for Sir Genji, but it was difficult as many were wearing helmets.... That's when she saw it.Genji removed the metal protection from his head, allowing for easier breathing. He was still bleeding heavily, creating pools of blood around him. The pain was great, but he should be able to survive the wounds he had sustained... Right? Only two stabs straight through his body..? He wanted to laugh to reassure himself, but was unable to. He heard heavy footsteps behind him, metal boots hitting the ground. Genji turned his head and saw a sword being raised.
Right as they began to swing the sword down, they were knocked to the side. This gave way to show someone holding a large staff, obviously the object they used to hit the enemy out of the way. They wore mainly white, meaning that they were friend rather than foe.
A mask covered their face, preventing Genji from seeing who it was. "T-Thank you.." His eyes trailed to their chest and back up to their face quickly, "er, Miss."Her eyes seemed to soften when she looked at him. However, they grew worried when she saw all the blood around him. "Please, call me Mercy. Would you come with me so I may treat your wounds?" Her voice was familiar, but Genji wasn't sure as it was very muffled by the mask. She held out a hand to him, offering her help.
He looked up at her. She looked like an angel. And he gladly took her hand. Anything to make sure he wouldn't die... And this mysterious lady seemed like she really could treat severe wounds like his.
Once his hand was in hers, he was led towards the back lines, where not many enemies have strayed into."I know I didn't necessarily need to drag you from the battle, I'm just not sure if this will work or not.." She gave a nervous laugh. "If it does, great! If it doesn't, I can treat your wounds the old fashioned way."
Tilting his head, "What do you mean, Miss Mercy?"
"Oh, don't worry." She held her staff in both her hands, the tip pointing towards Genji. 'Mercy' pressed a button, a strange golden stream flowing beautifully out of the staff. It met with the knight, giving him a yellowish glow as well.
He was met with a warm feel, the pain from his wounds subsiding. He looked down at himself, expecting to look at blood. However, he was gobsmacked when he saw the scarlet blood disappearing. Same with the holes in his chest. They were completely gone within only a few moments. She lowered her staff, looking at her work. "Oh wow..! It works wonders!" She eyed him with brilliant blue eyes, "Well? How do you feel?"
"A-Ahh! I feel wonderful! Thank you, Miss Mercy!" Genji exclaimed, still mesmerized by what had just seemed like magic.
Angela flashed a smile even though she knew her knight wouldn't be able to see it. She was able to help. Even though she knew she wouldn't be able to kill anyone, at least she wasn't cooped up in her room. She was going to heal as many of her knights as she possibly could.
"Well now, Sir Knight, I must go take of others." She waved to him before flying with her brilliant wings to other wounded members of her army. She held her staff steadily, giving as much healing as possible. She ran into many wounded, and managed to heal them just as well as she did Genji. Many were just as astounded as Genji was when they saw and felt her healing 'magic'. They all felt the same warmth that the first Knight had felt. The beam of golden light would heal in just seconds.
The random appearance of "Mercy" was a miracle and a godsend to those fighting.
Of course the princess couldn't make it to everyone, resulting in a few losses, but it was a significantly lower amount than if she weren't there. From one to another, she flew with her staff out, beam extended. The glowing golden light that came out from the end found its way to almost every knight at some point, gracing them with healed wounds and smiles.
She appeared to them as a guardian angel sent from heaven to protect them.As the sun began to fall slowly behind the hills, both armies began their retreats. The war would continue once more at dawn. Although the soldiers were already all healed, they were quite exhausted from the long day and excessive amount of fighting.
As the knights/soldiers were all making their way back towards the castle barracks, Mercy stayed back, smiling behind her face mask.
She too would have to return to the castle very soon, but a feeling of happiness and pride filled her as her eyes followed her men.Chapter Three
