Pain And Secrets

The two stared at each other in silence, neither knowing what to say or do. Gabe finally sighed and swallowed hard before opening his mouth, but Clementine cut him off.

"I only have around fifty minutes before I need to go back to AJ, I don't have time to even think about what happened. Let's just drop it and never mention it, got it?"

Hurt flashed across Gabe's face before anger replaced it and he practically hissed at Clementine.

"You know what? That's probably the smartest idea that's ever come out of your mouth. Whatever. I'm stopping by to see AJ later."

Gabe turned on his heel and walked away, letting his anger fade and his face finally showing the hurt that he had felt from Clementine's words. The teen really liked the kiss because he was beginning to crush on Clementine, but she showed that she didn't give two shits about the kiss and didn't even want to talk about it. Shoulders slumped and head down, Gabe slowly walked towards the gates and seen Javi was still on gate duty and hoped there was a run or something he could do to get away from her.

Clementine watched as Gabe stalked over to the gate with his form slumped over and felt an uneasy feeling in her stomach. She just chalked it up to it being that she hasn't eaten anything today and made her way inside and to the shower, the thought of the kiss never leaving her mind. As Clementine stepped inside the house she was greeted by the sound of someone hurling and crying while they puked. Usually Clementine minded her own business and stayed out of it but, hearing as the crying only got louder, Clementine decided to go check on them.

"Hello?"

The teen walked closer to where the sound was coming from and opened the bathroom door, revealing a miserable looking Kate leaning over the toilet. Her crying stopped when she heard the door open, but resumed when she seen that it was just Clementine. Kate gave Clementine a pathetic smile and flushed the toilet one more time before standing up and washed her face, trying to play it off that she wasn't just sobbing and hurling over the toilet.

"Kate, are you okay?"

That broke the last of Kate's resolve and she leaned back over the sink, sobs shaking her body and Clementine awkwardly patted her back in attempt to comfort her.

"Clementine, you have to promise not to tell anyone what I'm about to tell you until I know for sure."

The teen nodded that she would keep Kate's secret between them and Kate took in a shuddering breath.

"I slept with David while we were separated from everyone. It was a mistake and we were both just so caught up in thinking you guys were dead and just lost it to each other. I- uh- I might be pregnant."

Clementine's eyes grew huge at the reveal because she thought Javi and Kate were together and Kate seen her shocked expression.

"Javi and I fooled around but he never said that it meant anything. But, I still love Javi because he was there taking care of me and the kids when David abandoned us. Just don't tell anyone until I take a test or something to confirm it and then we'll go from there."

Clementine nodded again and Kate gave her a hug before walking out of the bathroom, but paused by the door.

"Hey, have you seen Javi or Gabe?"

The tips of Clementine's ears burned as she thought about her incident with Gabe and prayed Kate couldn't see them as she shook her head.

"Haven't seen Javi, but Gabe was walking towards the gate when I saw him last. Probably wanting to go on a run or something."

Kate nodded and waved goodbye to Clementine as she walked out of the bathroom and Clementine closed the door and locked it before slumping to the floor in exhaustion. Today was starting to take a toll on Clementine and it wasn't even noon yet. Deciding to push everything to the side of her mind, Clementine cleared her head and started undressing before hopping in the shower.

(45 Minuets Later)

A fresh looking Clementine exited her house that she shares with three others and started walking back to Denise's house, praying to anyone who was listening that AJ was going to be okay. Nerves were starting to get the best of Clementine when she raised her hand to knock on the door, but it swung open to reveal a distressed looking Denise.

"Oh good, you're here. I need to ask you some questions concerning AJ. Come on, come inside."

Denise grabbed Clementine's arm and drug her inside before releasing it and motioning for her to sit on the couch in the living room. Both females took a seat and Clementine watched as Denise dug out a huge looking medical and skimmed through it before finding a page dog eared.

"Okay, so AJ is going to be fine as long as he keeps taking his medicine over this week and maybe next if needed. But, when I watched that Garcia boy interact with him and then with you, I noticed something. I did a couple tests while you were away and I'm afraid I was correct. Have you noticed AJ not responding when you speak to him, but he does when it's a male speaking?"

Clementine furrowed her eyebrows and nodded her head in confirmation, wondering where Denise was heading with this. Denise sighed and took off her glasses before giving Clementine a grim look.

"AJ doesn't respond to you because he can barely hear you. Women have soft and quieter vocals, but males usually have deeper and loud vocals. That's why AJ was understanding everything Gabe said and responding to him."

Dread filled Clementine and she felt herself pale a little as she finally began to realize what all this was leading up to. Denise nodded her head and they both looked into the other room where AJ was sleeping peacefully.

"AJ is losing his hearing and will most likely lose it all in a year or less than that. I'm sorry to be the one to have to tell you this."
