SETTING DOWN THE INK PEN, Samantha looked at her final masterpiece of work. Since the Barry family is going on a business trip to Charlottetown, Samantha figured that it was time to write another letter to Gilbert Blythe. Re-reading the letter, she hoped that she hadn't spelt anything incorrectly.

Dear Mr. Gilbert Blythe,
First off, I wish you were here. I've missed you so much and don't blame me for saying I'm going crazy without you.
As you know, I've never been very good at talking to adults. This past week, Mrs. Barry hosted a town gathering in celebration - the discovery of gold in Avonlea. Between you and me, I'm not so sure that the man controlling everything is reliable. I talked to him at the party, and he seemed like a good man, but almost too good. Anyway, nothing else really happened that night besides Mr. Lynde eating all the desserts. I miss you, Gil. Hopefully we will see each other soon.
Love,
Samantha Darling

Folding the piece of paper into an envelope, Samantha placed it in her coat pocket as she made her way downstairs.

After re-reading the words in the letter, she couldn't help but feel guilt fill up in her. Though she had told Gilbert about that night, Samantha never said anything about talking with Billy Andrews' parents.

Samantha Darling could only hope that these actions wouldn't backfire, for she still has no idea what she was going to do about the situation she put herself in.

After all, today was Saturday - the day Samantha was going to have tea with Mr. and Mrs. Andrews. After taking a glance in the mirror, Samantha sighed and made her way downstairs.

"Samantha, hurry up now," called Mrs. Barry, shuffling her family - along with Anne - out the door. "You are coming, aren't you?"

"Forgive me, I forgot to tell you," Samantha spoke, trying her best to prevent her voice from shaking. "I have been invited over for tea at the Andrews' house this afternoon."

"You're what?" Diana spoke, her eyes widening in shock as her mouth parted slightly.

"Diana, get to the carriage," Mrs. Barry spoke lightly moving Diana out of the doorway. After brief silence, Mrs. Barry smiled.

"Oh, what a surprise," spoke Mrs. Barry, her eyes lighting up slightly as she caught on to the potential reason. "Wow, this is delightful."

Furrowing her eyebrows, Samantha asked, "How so?"

Ignoring her question, Mrs. Barry turned to the girl, "I want you to be kind and presentable to the Andrews' family. You are just what we need to keep our families connected, especially after the great loss of the gold money."

"Wait, but-" Samantha spoke, but she was abruptly cut off.

"Well then, enjoy your afternoon. We will be back tomorrow - make sure you return home." Mrs. Barry spoke, flashing the girl a slight nod.
