Chapter 16: Standing Up For What You Belive In
Eliza and I didn't speak after that, but she no longer teased me or made rude comments. Actually, she hardly came to school, and when she did, she was quiet and thoughtful. I still felt terribly sorry for her, but also relieved that the evil inside her had been locked away for awhile.
It was strange how everyone just accepted me like that, now that Cater and I were an item and I had changed what I looked like. I know it's bad, changing what you look like just to fit in, but if it would stop me from getting teased, I was fine with it. Carter was fine with it too, because he hated seeing me miserable, and he still saw me as the girl he first met in the hallway.
Those next few weeks were, somewhat, happy. The scar on my nose started to fade, but the thought of Barney and the trial still lingered in the back of my mind, waiting to pounce. I met more people everyday at school, I was a lot more open and friendly, which caused even more people starting to like me. Carter and I were, well, inseparable. Every lunch we sat together, he even changed some of his classes to be with me. Our relationship grew stronger everyday, and everyday I started to love him even more. He was amazing, everything I had ever dreamed of; funny, sexy, polite, wonderful. The only downside was that he still hung out with his jerk jock friends, who constantly teased me about why I hadn't given Carter 'any' yet.
I picked up paste with my schoolwork again, and with the help of Ivy, I got back on the right path. My emo days were over, the new Lillian Anderbeld had been born.
My parents would be proud, I would constantly think. I bet they're smiling down at me right now.
Life was great.
Surprisingly.
One night was particularly significant, the night that Carter and I went on our first real date. It was a cold winter's night, a regular chilly night, so we didn't do anything outdoors like he would have wanted. Instead he took me to see a movie at the theatre just outside our town. It was small, but one of the only cinema's around.
"Your first date!" Ivy had said as I got ready. "I'm so excited!"
"Excited?" I smirked, holding up my favourite shirt and looking in the mirror. "You aren't planning on following me, are you?"
She shook her hastily. "No! Of course not." She raised her eyebrows. "Unless, you want me to?"
"I think I can manage." I had chuckled, thoughts of Carter swirling around my brain.
Carter had came around and asked if I was ready, but not before telling me how good I looked. He looked amazing himself, wearing nothing but blue jeans and a white shirt. Lillian had leant me the keys to her cousin's purple Lamborghini (which of course my reaction was screaming at the top of my lungs) and since Carter didn't have his lisence yet, (you had to be seventeen in Australia, what a bummer) I had been the designated driver for the night.
And driving it, you ask? Like a slice of heaven.
We drove in speed, in style, it's purple so dark we almost blended in with the night.
"You know, I don't see why Ivy needed to give you a makeover, it seems you had plenty of style beforehand." He had mused as I tapped my hand along with the music on the radio.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"You still looked nice to me."
I snorted. "In my Dad's old sweats? You smoke something weird down under, my friend."
