Chapter 18: Truth Be Told
*Carter's POV*
The sun was poking through the window when I steadily opened my eyes in the morning. It wasn't cold, but it wasn't exactly hot either, a perfect start to a perfect day.
Next to me, curled up on my side, was a figure breathing heavily. Her ivory skin glowed against her dusky hair flowing over my shoulder. A hand rested on my chest, fingers warm on my own skin. My blue sheet wrapped around her tightly
And she was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen in my entire life.
Memories from last night floated in my brain, making me smile. Every touch, every kiss still lingered, leaving a warm feeling inside me.
A bird cawed from outside the window, telling me it was time to start the day. It was Sunday, so we were free to do whatever we wanted. Hopefully my patents were still out and Eliza was too busy with her legs wrapped around some guy's head or hangover. I rubbed my eyes and gently started to sit up, trying not to jolst Lily as I did so. She did stir as I steadied her down, but her eyes didn't open.
The floor was cold when I put my feet on the surface. I shrugged on a pair of pants sitting next to my bedside table and walked over to stand next to the window. The flowers in the backyard were just starting to bloom, all dazzling with startling colours. The grass was filled like a rainbow.
When I looked back at the bed, I almost gasped. Lily looked so peaceful, so delicate. Her hand lay on the pillow where I had left it, waiting for me. The sight of her made my throat choke up and a funny feeling tingle behind my eyelids.
Don't cry, Carter. I told myself, and looked away. Men don't cry.
But all I wanted to do was cry. All I wanted to do wad sink to my knees and weep until I couldn't anymore. I wanted to hold her, I
wanted to tell her I loved her. I wanted this to last forever, I wanted to be with her forever.
But I knew I couldn't.
The thought of it was like ice pillars in my chest.
All I wanted to do was tell her. Holding a secret this big was sickening, like a black hole was eating up my insides.
I looked at her again, my breath hitching and ragged.
All I wanted to do was tell her.
But I knew I couldn't
Not just yet.

*Lillian's POV*
"Here," some random passed me a pink piece of paper. "I hope you can come!"
I was about to ask who the hell was she until she moved away and gave another piece of paper to a skater boy at the other table. "Here, I hope you can come!" She repeated perkily.
A vibe ran from the paper, a bad vibe. Something was wrong. And whatever it was, this paper was the answer.
"What's that?" A voice asked from behind me. Arms wrapped around my waist and a kiss tickled on my neck.
I sighed and leaned into Carter's embrace. "A piece of paper?"
"I mean, what's on it, doofus."
Inside the piece of paper was bold black writing and a picture of a sun. Flowers filled the page, tulips and daisies and roses. It looked like a six year old's birthday party invitation.
