Fate.It had always been difficult to understand how such a simple concept could affect us so drastically. It was beyond our control. And yet, every decision was mine and mine alone. Or atleast, I was determined to believe that they were mine. There was a time when I believed in everything. I believed that the spirits were watching over us, that there was a higher power incomprehensible to humans such as myself.
But then, everything changed. I never stopped believing, no. I simply saw things for what they were. Thanks to him. Life and death were so much more complex than I could have imagined, magic was able to bend the will of nature itself. I had always known that the spirits were watching us, they had power indefinitely, but their benevolence was never guaranteed. If this was my reality, why should fate be ruled out too? Supernatural creatures roamed the earth, from immortal beings and werewolves to spirits and witches. I had seen the unspeakable, survived the impossible, and here I stand.
But fate?
No. Every decision I've made has been my own. But then again, how can you blame chance when my path is forever entwined with anothers? With his?
"This is your fate, Adriana. This is what you were born to do. You have the power to kill him, to claim vengeance after all this time. I won't accept anything less, my child, mark my words."
Luther's twisted words, from all those years ago, incessantly drilled its way into my mind as I observed my surroundings.
It was strange to be back here so soon.
Whitmore College hasn't changed at all, and yet, unfamiliar people moved past unphased by everything. I was here for a reason, though.
I was here to see Atticus Shane.

"If I say the word witch..." The professor started, stepping forward as the projector glared brightly behind him. "What pops into your head? Halloween costume... villain of a fairy tale? Maybe an ex girlfriend?" He continued listing, a light tone of humour evident in his voice.
It was then that three figures entered and sat at the back of the lecture theatre, the professor continuing his talk.
"Now in reality... or in this reality, at least, witches have appeared across every culture in history. They're the architects of the supernatural. Responsible for everything that goes bump in the night... from ghosts, to vampires, to doppelgängers".One of the three figures simply rolled his eyes and turned to the girl next to him.
"What is this guy, Witch-ipedia?" he joked quietly, making her chuckle slightly.
"Shut up" the third figure hissed, before turning back to the lecture."Now, if you're a skeptic, you'd call that a coincidence" the professor continued. "But If you're a true believer..." his voice trailed off, continuing further with his talk as the pair in the back continued whispering to one another.
"Am I interrupting you guys?" he called out, catching their attention. "Or is it maybe the other way around?".The pair quickly apologised, allowing the professor to continue.
"Now, we should probably talk about the reading that none of you did" he said humorously. "The first paper, was a translation and written analysis of a script written way over five centuries ago, detailing the possibility of the existence of supernatural hybrid species." He paused, looking out at his class. "The script reads as some form of diary, you see. Very doom and gloom. But, it details how a witch was fated to destroy the first hybrid, as his existence defied the balance of nature. This girl, the witch... she chose her own path and made the ultimate sacrifice to do so. Why, you ask? Because she fell in love with the one thing she was destined to destroy." He changed the slide once more, before turning back to his students. "Poetic... But if true, this suggests that there truly is no limit to the power of a witch."
