Damon:

It was morning at the Salvatore Boarding House, and Damon was sat in the parlour, uninterrupted, until his brother descended the staircase with a duffel bag slung over his shoulder.
"Where have you been?" he asked, watching his brother carefully.
"Ah, you know, out." Stefan replied casually, making his way towards the front door.
"Where you going?"
"Out" he said again.
"Okay..." Damon nods. "I see shady Stefan is back."

At that, Stefan stops in his tracks, brows knitting together slightly, before turning back to his brother.
"Please don't tell me that you're still working with Klaus."
"You obviously haven't heard. Elena and I broke up" Stefan noted bluntly, tension in the silent air as Damon simply stared back blankly, uncertain of what to say.

"Oh." Damon glanced to the ground awkwardly. "Got it. Uh, well, I'll be quick then. So, apparently, if we want to find the cure, we have to find a vampire hunter who can kill enough vampires to reveal the map on the hunter's mark."

Damon paused a moment, letting the information sink in.
"Now, unless we want Jeremy to go all Connor two-point-oh, I suggest we find a different hunter."
"Okay" his brother nods, almost disinterestedly. "And?"
"And I was gonna ask Professor Shane, but turns out he's shadier than you are."

Stefan rolled his eyes at that, before allowing Damon to continue his explanation.
"Matt Donovan connected him and the Pastor through phone records. Apparently, the two were very chatty the day that the Pastor blew up the Council."
"Ah, so you're gonna confront Shane, threaten him, possibly kill him, that sort of thing?" Stefan asked dryly.
"Actually, I was gonna try to go for his assistant... there's something off about her too. Figure I could get two birds with one stone" Damon shrugged, smirking at his brother.
"His assistant?" Stefan squinted slightly in confusion. This is the first he'd heard about an assistant.
"Adriana Fardane, according to Bonnie. She knows more about this than she's letting on" Damon continued, until he noticed the flash of recognition on his brothers face. "What is it? You know her?"
"No..." Stefan shook his head. "But I think Klaus does. If it's the same Adriana, that is."
"Hm... interesting" Damon grinned. "What do you say? Should we tag team this?"
"Nah, I'd say you're on your own."

At that, Stefan attempts to leave again, until Damon steps forward, stopping him in his tracks.
"Or we could just blow it off and go get drunk. Brother bond over some Tri Delts. If you... you know, want some quality time." Stefan grimaces slightly, before laughing, lacking amusement entirely.

"Let's not pretend like this isn't the best day of your life."

Adriana:

"Why did I have to wear a dress?" I groaned, turning to Professor Shane as he parked the car outside of the Lockwood's mansion.
"It's a high school pageant, Adriana" he chuckled. "You'd be a bit out of place if you didn't."
"Ugh" I grimaced, stepping out of the car. "Why do I have to go with you?"
"Ah, stop complaining... It's not like you have anything better to do." I rolled my eyes behind his back as we headed towards the house.

At the front door, there was a woman with short brown hair, greeting guests as they entered.
"Ah..." Shane started. "Carol Lockwood..." He took her hand, shaking in greeting. "It's a pleasure to see you again."
"Atticus Shane, yes" she smiles. "I've heard a lot of good things about your exhibit at the school."
"Please, just Shane is fine" he grinned, charming as ever. "I'd like to introduce my assistant too" he nodded to me.
"I'm Adriana Fardane" I shook her hand politely with a nod. "You've got a lovely home, Mrs Lockwood."
"Oh, you're too kind" she laughs. "Please, enjoy yourself. The open bar is in the garden and Shane... if you would like to follow me, I'll show you to the judges table."
