"Adriana?"I looked up at Klaus, his impatient gaze catching mine. He was teasing me, again.
"Sorry" I laughed. "I got distracted... Again."
"You do that a lot, love" he smirked, before looking back down at the parchment he was holding. "Stay still, it's nearly finished."The pair of us were sat together, in an opening of trees leading into the forest. The peaceful fields just on the other side. He was leaning back against the trunk of a pine tree, charcoal in hand as he repositioned the paper against his leg.
I looked back out across the fields, smiling slightly at the sunset. Deep ambers and golds rolled out across the blue of the sky, clouds splitting the dwindling rays of light as they bounced over the hills effortlessly.
"You're missing the view" I sighed, attempting to maintain the pose.
"I can assure you... that I'm definitely not" he replied absentmindedly, gaze repeatedly drifting from myself to the paper infront of him.I couldn't help but glance at him then, a small smile tugging at my lips as his gaze met mine. And then, I just laughed. Which consequently made him laugh, the two of us giggling over a comment like a pair of children.
"You're terrible" I snorted.
"Maybe so" he chuckled, shaking his head. "But I'd like to think that I'd be slightly better at posing than you."
"Oh, how you wound me, Niklaus." I batted his chest lightly. "Let me see this drawing already... my Father will have my head if I'm not back before nightfall." I nodded towards the sunset, darker twists of purple were now unfurling across the horizon. Klaus let out a defeated sigh at that, despite the grin still plastered on his face."Just... one moment" he said, evidently scribbling a few words to go with it. "There." The smile dropped from his face then, all traces of humour vanishing.
Art was important to him. It was a passion. He seemed almost afraid.
"Oh... Nik" I breathed, freezing up slightly. It was strange, seeing yourself drawn in this way. Strange to see that someone actually paid that much attention, not even missing a single detail. "I love it... it's so beautiful."
"That's all you, love" he shrugged, before shifting over to sit next to me. I smiled at that, letting out a disbelieving sigh, feeling my cheeks heat up slightly. I shook my head, before leaning against his shoulder, still holding onto the paper.
"I wish I were as talented as you" I mumbled, taking one of his charcoal covered hands in mine, not caring about the mess in the slightest.
"You flatter me" Klaus chuckled, interlacing his fingers with my own. "Although... I could try teaching you a few things, if that's what you wish." I grinned then, nodding in excitement, Klaus' face inching closer to mine.
"That smile..." he murmured, gentle fingers tracing my cheek. "That smile right there, is why you will be my undoing, Adriana."________
"Adriana?"
I could just about hear a voice pulling me from sleep. I groaned slightly, eyes blinking, opening in reluctance as if it were the break of dawn. My eyes adjusted to the light of the mid-afternoon sun, turning in my car seat to face the source of the voice.
"We're nearly there" Shane said. "Thought I'd wake you from your nap." I groaned again at that, stretching out as much as I could in the passenger seat of the cramped car, before slumping back heavily. "Still not talking to me, huh?". He sighed almost in defeat when he noticed my icy glare. "Look, as soon as this is all dealt with, I'll tell you what I know. I don't break promises, Adriana."
I sat up in my seat again, rolling my eyes at the professors empty promises.
"Right" I scoffed, looking out at the trees as they swept by. "If I don't die before then, that is. You said it was Luther that gave you that drawing, which means that he's planning something. And now... you're giving me nothing."
"I understand you're trying to protect yourself, but I have to do the same for me. Your father-"
"He's not my Father" I cut in.
