"I see you've made yourself at home already."

The teasing tone in Klaus' voice was unmistakable as I leant over the back of the sofa, one arm lazily dangling over the side. I could see the curve of his lips, a familiar smirk, before he stepped forward into the room.
"You know me" I replied with a nonchalant shrug, forcing the conversation with Stefan out of my mind as I smiled up at him. "Old habits die hard, I suppose."

Klaus smiled again then, full and genuine as a memory struck him suddenly. "If you're referring to that incident at that Spanish tavern..." he started, chuckling slightly with a shake of his head. "I still maintain the view that you and Rebekah are entirely to blame for that series of events." I couldn't help but let out a snort at that, my free hand covering my face as I laughed, remembering that night clearly.
"There's nothing wrong with a little party, Nik" I replied, still grinning as I moved my hand, leaning on the palm as I did so.
"So you keep reminding me" he noted.

There was a pause at that instant, familiar and comfortable silence washing over the room, like a pleasant glow at dusk as the two of us smiled knowingly at one another. It was strange, how after so many years apart it was easy to sink back into accustomed and regular rhythms.
"Have you picked a room?" he asked after a moment, just as I stood up from the sofa. "There's plenty to choose from." His gaze glinted mischievously then, as I told him that I hadn't chosen; I was a guest, after all. "Nonsense" he said, as I made my way over to him. "Pick any room you like."

Klaus' tone was teasing, again, as if he had already formulated some plan or another. I sighed then, crossing my arms, watching him with a knowing smile as I waited for him to say his piece. "Although..." he started. "Mine does happen to be the most comfortable. I seem to recall that you used to be quite enthusiastic about such arrangements."

"Niklaus" I said warningly, still smirking as he let out a defeated, if not amused sigh. "I'm not going to jump into bed with you just because you're giving me the eyes... What would people think?"
"As if you've ever cared about anyone else's opinions, Adriana" he scoffed, quirking a brow at me. "Besides... who said it had to be on the bed?" he asked simply, his gaze meeting mine. "You also used to be quite enthusiastic about-"

I cut him off then, with a swift punch on the arm, knowing exactly what he was about to say, making him chuckle again as he raised his hands in defense.
"You're not funny" I managed, trying to keep a straight face to no avail.
"I was only teasing you, love" he said, smiling, gaze still soft from laughter. "I'll have someone put your bags in one of the guest bedrooms" he added.

I thanked him, yet insisted that I could carry my bags myself. After a little back and forth, I sighed defeatedly as he sped over to the bags, lifting them in an instant and disappearing upstairs. After just a moment, he was back in front of me, that same smirk still plastered on his lips.

He never could stand losing an argument.

"Now that's all out of the way..." Klaus continued brightly. "I did have something to ask you, Adriana."
"Interesting..." I hummed, propping a hand on my hip with a smile. "I had something to ask you too."

I had a feeling of what the answer would be, yet I had to hear it from himself.
"You first" I smiled, nervously fiddling with my fingers. I didn't notice his gaze shift down to my hands curiously, picking up on my mannerisms. And yet, he said nothing about it.

Klaus looked back up at me then. "I was hoping that you'd accompany me to a little charity event this evening" he said casually. "I expect it to be rather dull.. but it's all for a good cause, love."
"A fundraiser?" I tilted my head slightly with a smile. "Aren't you the upstanding citizen... is this what you do these days? When you're not creating hybrids and chasing after cures of immortality, that is..." He chuckled at that, shaking his head again.
"Now who's teasing who?" he asked, a humorous lilt in his voice as he did so.
"I guess that makes us even" I replied with a shrug.
"For now" Klaus noted. "But I do still need an answer, sweetheart."
"Of course I'll come" I said. "Besides... If I'm sticking around, I'll need to get stuck in eventually, won't I?"
