"Concentrate Merina,just think of the spell.Visualize,Feel it,imagine it expanding.Then,think of what you want it to do,Focus on that"Said pearl reading  from one of my magic books that I was assigned to master by none other then the Queen-My Mother

Both my best friends pearl and serifina  were helping me study and master the new spells that my  mother wanted me to learn.I really wanted to impress my mom so I have been working on this with them all day.

Serifina and pearl are 2 of my very few friends.They practically grew up with me in the palace as well as my other two friends  Maximus and Zane.

All of they're parents are apart of the royal court,They're mothers and fathers are usually extremely busy with they're royal duties,Some of them travel to other kingdoms on behalf of my parents or help my parents manage the kingdom or a number of other things.

Since they're parents were always busy with court duties,and my parents were running a kingdom;we all grew up together getting mischievous around the castle,We had such fun as Merlings .They are the few merpeople that know some more advanced spells,They learned special skills a little higher then average Mers which helps me out sometimes too,although I have special powers I don't always know how to fully use them,This is why my friends can help me out sometimes.we study mer magic together,although my studies continue to be different and more advanced,it's within the same subject.The difference is only I can do the more advanced spells.

I roll my eyes"I'm trying,I just don't get how "visualizing"will help me"I say annoyed

"It specifically says here that you need to Visualize your magic,what color it is,What shape it makes when your using it,What it sounds like,Think of it as a physical thing and it says that doing so will allow you to focus on what you would like it to do"Said  serefina  reading over pearls shoulder.

I nodded"Got it"I said to myself.

"Let's try it with the sponge spell"Said pearl as I nodded.

"Easy!"I said as I lifted my hand to pick up one of the water lilly plants as I took a deep breathe concentrating on what I wanted my magic to do,Within seconds the plant grew water sponges on the end of the leaves to full blossom.I smiled as I placed the plant down on the floor.

"Good,That was great Merina "Said serefina.

I rolled my eyes"That was easy,Let's try the whirl pool spell"I said excited.

Serefina and pearls mouths dropped"No no no no no,You heard the Queen.Stick to your level.Those spells are too advanced and dangerous to do without enough practice"Said serefina waving her finger like my second mother.

I sighed"But why?We all know that I can do so much more with my powers then lift plants and make them sprout sponges"I said annoyed.

"Because, the Queen told us to strictly keep you concentrated on these here basic spells"Said Serefina pointing down at the book"These spells are good for learning control in your magic,the calmer and more focused and controlled you are when you do these spells the better and stronger you turn out.Thats why you need to get them perfect so you can be in control when you do the much more advanced spells"

I sighed again sulking into my chair playing with the hem of my long silk dress that flowed around me nicely"Yes yes I know,But I have plenty of control,These basic spells are so boring,I just wish my mother would trust me with her own spell book"I said as I smiled.

"The queens spell book"Said pearl amazed"There must be so many amazing things in there"

"Don't encourage her pearl!The queens book is off limits until she is ready,like her majesty has said before"Said serefina
