Omniscient
"Let me ask you something." Dellen voiced, walking side by side across the campus with Capri. It's been two days since his sit down with Fabienne and the pair has accepted that they were going to be this way until they mastered the goal of truly living the other's life. "What's your relationship with your brother like?"
Capri was quiet for a moment, looking straight ahead at nothing in particular before speaking. "We don't have a relationship, to be honest."
"Why not?" Dellen opened the door to the main campus building, letting her walk in first.
"Thanks. We had a close-knit relationship once upon a time, but he stopped being a brother after our mom walked out on us.
"Hmm, what do y'all mama walking out got to do with him treating you bad? You ain't make her leave."
Shrugging, Capri said, "I don't know. Never really cared to ask because I'd have to give a damn first."
"But you do give a damn. I see it on your face." Dellen pointed out, causing Capri to look up at him with a frown. "Don't try to act lost. The second I asked about him, your demeanor changed. I peeped."
"Maybe you should've peeped a little harder because I don't care about him or Martin."
"Martin?" Dellen repeated, halting his movements, standing in the middle of the corridor. "What did he do?"
Silently cursing herself for letting his name slip out of her mouth, Capri shook her head. "Nothing. Let's get to class before we're late." She turned around, picking up her pace, fearing that Dellen would interrogate her further.
Since the switch has happened, Capri completely forgot about Martin and how he wants her home every weekend. When she doesn't comply, he gets Brandyn to reach out on his behalf. Being the unnecessary asshole that he is, Brandyn sends her disrespectful messages and leaves harsh voicemails. Capri's heart began to race as she wondered if her brother has tried to contact her while Dellen has had her phone.
Of course, he has, she thought. Why else would Dellen randomly ask about him?
"Give me my phone for a second." She turned in her chair to Dellen who sat behind her in class.
He wanted to be nosey and ask why she wanted it but decided against it. It is her phone, to begin with. Reaching in his satchel, Dellen fetched the device, giving it to her.
Going to her messages, Capri's stomach dropped as she had an unread message from Martin. Without hesitation, she opened his thread and read what he sent.
I miss you, sweetheart. You haven't called or texted your old man in a few days. I got a surprise for you but you have to be home this weekend to get it. I expect you Saturday evening around 6 o clock. See you then. I love you dearly.
Yours truly,
Daddy 🍆💦Disgusted with the emojis, Capri gagged, deleting the message. Nothing ever surprised her anymore when it had something to do with Martin but each time she found him more repulsive. However, he's never texted Capri for anything so she wondered what the "surprise" was or if it was a ply to get her home.
"Phone away, Knox." Professor Butler said the second he walked into the room.
Capri slightly rolled her eyes and gave her phone back to Dellen. For the next hour, her mind was elsewhere as the professor talked about a bunch of bullcrap that doesn't benefit her or Dellen's career in the future. Stuck on Martin's message, Capri racked her brain trying to think of what he had for her aside from his penis. Class ended and everyone rushed out of their seats towards the door while Capri stayed sitting down lost in her thoughts.
