"So... let me get this straight," began Amethyst. "Rose Quartz, leader of the Crystal Gems, Steven's mom-" Steven scratched the back of his head awkwardly, "was actually Pink Diamond?!"
"She faked her own shattering, and reformed to be Rose all the time," Steven said wearily. Pearl looked distraught.
"Pink Diamond's final command to me was that no one could know," she said, "but now that Steven does, I can finally tell you all everything!" She looked relieved.
"Phew!" cried Amethyst, wiping her brow. "A pink lion, a pink sword, and now Pink Diamond? Huh, if you told me Rose invented cotton candy I'd believe it, right Garnet?" Amethyst nudged the fusion beside her, who had remained silent since the news had sunk in. Right now, her face was unreadable, the expression in her eyes shielded by her shades.
"Uh, Garnet?" Amethyst repeated as Garnet stood up quite suddenly, looking a little shaky.

"R-rose..." growled Garnet coldly as she took a few steps in the direction of the warp pad. Oh no, thought Steven. No no no no no!
"She.. she..." Garnet was now shivering, clenched, palms extended, then clenched again.
"Rragghh!" she cried in anguish, and then a flash of bright light, a tear.
And then she was not one anymore, but two.

"Sapphire-" Ruby started hastily.
"She lied to us!" Sapphire cut in angrily, fists balled up. "She lied about everything!" Suddenly, spikes of sleet and ice shot across the ground from underneath Sapphire. Steven stared at the floor in disbelief. Sapphire continued.
"She held our hands, looked us right in the eye, and told us never to question who we are as Garnet. We never questioned ourselves, or her!"
Ruby blinked in surprise.

"We couldn't have known!" she began reasonably, lifting her arms slightly.
"No!" Sapphire finished, and Ruby dropped her arms. "You couldn't have known. You never know what's going on!" She added in a more hostile voice, "That's what I'm for."
Steven had expected Ruby to fire back at her, but instead Ruby looked extremely hurt.
"Sapphire..." she began, but Sapphire interrupted her yet again.
"But I never looked into her. I trusted her." She turned away from Ruby's disbelieving face, clutched the hem of her icy gown, and continued towards the warp pad. "I let her make fools of us all!"

"Sapphire wait!" Ruby cried out desperately and ran out towards the sapphire on the warp pad. Steven was having sudden flashbacks of his time at the Keystone Motel. He decided he should make a move, but he knew it was too late.
"Guys!" he called out before tripping on the slippery ice floor and landing with hard thud. He looked up at the couple.

"Please," Ruby managed. "We can just... stay calm an-and talk about this, right?" She relaxed a bit and allowed a weak smile, raising her gem hand cautiously. "Let's just... talk."
"Talk about what?" Sapphire snarled, a stream of tears making their way down her face. "How our relationship is based on a lie?" She wasn't going to fall apart. Not yet.
"What else is there to say?" she whispered through a tear-streaked face, and she was gone with a flash of light and the familiar sound of a warp pad.

Ruby sunk to the ground in defeat.
