You woke up the next morning after a restless sleep. Shortly after you had fallen asleep, you woke up and couldn't stop thinking about Loki, causing you to toss and turn and not sleep. Every time you fell back asleep, it was only for a short amount of time, and then you were awake again.
At around seven in the morning, you decided to just get up, so you rolled out of bed. You got in the shower, trying to clear your mind before you had to see Loki again. You knew it was going to be so awkward, and you were not ready to face him. Especially because you had absolutely no idea what you did wrong.
You got out of the shower after a little while and changed into shorts and a hoodie. You didn't even bother drying your hair, you just let it fall naturally. You walked into the kitchen cautiously looking for Loki, not knowing what it was going to be like when you did finally see him.
You fixed yourself a bowl of cereal and began eating it when Loki suddenly walked into the kitchen. You stopped eating as you and him made eye contact, neither of you daring to say anything. Loki held your gaze for a moment longer. He felt bad for what happened last night, but he couldn't let himself be weak.
He looked down and the two of you just stood there in awkward silence when suddenly Fury's voice came over the built-in speakers in the bunker. "Agent Y/L/N, I need to speak to you immediately. I'm coming in, don't be alarmed," Fury stated, and Loki looked up at you with what appeared to be slight panic in his eyes.
You breathed out a sigh and then stated, "You need to get back into your cell." Loki just nodded and you walked past him, walking to the control room. He followed you and you walked into the room where his cell was being held. He walked into his cage and you walked over to the hand scanner.
His eyes met yours as you placed your hand on the scanner, shutting the glass door. You held his gaze for a moment longer before walking out of the room, him watching you leave. You walked to the front of the bunker where Fury had walked in through the door.
"Good morning, Agent Y/L/N, how's the prisoner?" Fury asked. "Secure," you replied. "Good," Fury replied, nodding his head. "Sir, what is this about?" you asked him, wanting to know why he was there when he asked you not to make contact unless it was an emergency.
Fury looked at you for a moment before explaining, "I need you to go on a mission for me." You raised your eyebrows slightly before asking, "Why me? Don't you have Agent Barton or Agent Romanoff for that?" Fury let out a sigh before replying, "They are a bit preoccupied with things that have to do with the Avengers, right now. I need you, Agent Y/L/N."
You nodded your head and told him, "Of course, sir, I understand. What exactly is this mission?" Fury hesitated for a moment, before saying, "There's something you need to know before I can tell you that." "Okay," you responded, waiting for Fury to explain.
"I need Loki to go with you," Fury muttered under his breath as if he couldn't even believe he was saying it. "I'm sorry, what?" you asked, both shocked and confused. "Right now, SHIELD is short a lot of agents, and although I cannot give the details as to why, I know that you need a partner out there," Fury explained.
"So, recruiting the God of Mischief as an Agent of SHIELD is your solution?" you asked him. "No, but using him as a means to protect you is," Fury replied. "What makes you so sure that he won't try to escape?" you asked.
If you were being honest, the idea of you and Loki having to work a mission together both excited and terrified you. Especially after what had happened last night, but you knew that Loki would protect you. Of course, you couldn't let Fury know that you knew that or he would suspect something, so you pretended like you were completely indifferent to the God.
"Simple, Thor provided me with a bracelet from Asgard. It will inhibit Loki from using his tricks," Fury explained. "If Thor had a magical bracelet that could stop Loki, why didn't he use it?" you questioned.
"He did. Whenever Loki was being transported from one place to another, the bracelet was on," Fury replied, taking out a silver bracelet that was opened. It looked so simple and you wondered how it could possibly stop Loki. "You need to convince him to wear the bracelet and go with you. Something tells me he'll listen to you more than he'll listen to me," Fury stated, handing you the bracelet.
You let out a small sigh but agreed to do it, and Fury sat on the couch in the living room while you made your way through the control room and into the small room. Loki's eyes fell on you immediately as you entered the room and walked so that you were standing in front of the room.
There was just silence as you and Loki looked at each other. After a moment, you pulled out the bracelet, showing it to Loki. Loki looked at the bracelet before looking at you, silently asking what was going on.
"Fury has ordered me to go on a mission, but something happened and there aren't many SHIELD agents available. Because of that, Fury has requested that I ask you to go with me as protection in case anything happens. You would have to wear the bracelet. I completely understand if you don't want to go," you explained as if you had rehearsed the same words a thousand times.
"I'll go," Loki stated. He had already known his answer when you said that you would need protection. Whether he was going to let himself be vulnerable around you he still hadn't decided, but one thing he knew for sure was that he was never going to let anything happen to you.
You gave him a soft smile that he wanted to return but stopped himself. You felt slightly taken aback by his actions, and you were starting to get a little mad. Everything seemed to be going so great, and then in a moment everything had gone wrong, and he wouldn't even offer an explanation.
You let out a small sigh and slightly rolled your eyes before walking over to the hand scanner and opening the door. Loki stepped out of the cell and walked over to you. He stopped a little bit in front of you and held out his left arm, keeping his eyes locked on yours.
You took the bracelet and clicked it in place around Loki's wrist. Loki closed his eyes for a moment as if he could feel his magic being locked up inside of him. You waited for a moment to make sure he was okay, and as soon as he opened his eyes, you said, "Come on. We need to go talk to Fury." You then walked back to the room where Fury was with Loki following you.
