Chapter Four: An Innocent Killer

"Mikey... Mikey... Mikey!"

I jerk awake from my restless sleep, gasping when I saw Leo sitting up next to me. He smiled, wincing in pain when I tackled him in a hug.

"LEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! MERRY CHRISTMAS!" I screech, hugging him as tight as I could.

"M-mky, nd aiw-"

"Shell! Sorry dude!" I yelp, jumping away from him.

He struggled for breath, leaning over as he clutched his head. I shivered when he burst into a fit of coughs.

"I-it's... Fine... Wha-what...?" He trailed off, coughing again.

"Oh! You want to know what happened??" I question. He nodded weakly, laying back down on the hay.

"Well, it all started when I asked you to go for a walk. We went through the snowy forest, you praising me as I did the most awesome ninja flips and saved thousands of forest creatures from certain doom-"

"Mikey..." Leo growled hoarsely, nudging my shoulder.

I laugh nervously, scratching the back of my neck.

"Hehe... Basically, you hit your head on a rock and fell into the stream. I jumped after you and we eventually got to the bank, but you were still unconscious. I started to follow the stream back to the Farmhouse, but I was tired and after a while it got dark, so I took us to this awesome abandoned barn! Nice, right??" I grin.

Before Leo could respond, I added, "And I made a camp fire to, all by myself!"

Well, with the help of a lighter, but still!

"That w-was-" Leo cut himself off, sneezing. "Very... Smart of y-you, Mikey..." Leo sniffled, shuddering as he pulled the blanket tighter around him.

"Like a turtle do!" I smile, but it quickly turned into a frown as I studied his physical state.

"We need to get back to the Farmhouse now. You up for a walk...? I can carry-"

"N-no, I'm fine, I can w-walk by myself..." Leo interrupted.

Let's just say that ten minutes later, I was walking through the woods with Leo leaning heavily against my shoulder. We make our way along the side of the stream, heading closer to our family and friends.

I can't wait to get back! They better not open the presents without us!

Suddenly, a yelp and heavy thump comes from behind me. Alarmed, I turned to see Leo gasping for breath, laying on his side in the snow. He was clutching his foot, which I realized was twisted. I hurry toward him, kneeling down.

"Leo! Are you okay?? What should I do?? Should I scream? Do you want me to sing for you? Dance? Or should I-"

That's when I realized Leo's eyes had closed, drifting back into unconsciousness.
