Chapter Five: All I want for Christmas

I sit next to the stream, tears streaming down my face as I stared at the rushing water. I couldn't believe it.

I, Michelangelo Hamato, the caring and funny mutant turtle, had killed people. And the fact that I hadn't even cared while I did it scared me.

"I'm a monster..." I whimper, rubbing my eyes.

After a few minutes of moping around, I decided that I had to get Leo back to the Farmhouse tonight.

My wound had already become numb, along with the rest of my body, but Leo needed immediate medical attention; something that I haven't been able to give him.

He was slightly warmer then me, probably because of the old barn blanket I had wrapped around him, but his wound was getting worse. I feared it could become infected, if it hasn't already.

And the fact that even trying to stand had caused him to passed out scared me as well.

I jump to my feet but immediately regret it, leaning on a nearby tree to steady my swaying body. I picked Leo up and cradled him in my arms, deciding it would be more comfortable for my sick and injured older brother.

It definitely didn't feel better for my shoulder wound, though- the area had begun to thrum with a distant pain as I moved around more.

Five minutes later, I decided it would be best to try to wake Leo up. Not wanting to delay our journey any longer though, I simply peered down at him as I continued to walk through the snowy forest.

"Hey Leo, wakey wakey!" I try to sing.

Keyword try, since my voice was so scratchy it sounded more like nails on a chalkboard.

When Leo didn't move, I sighed.

"Bro, look! A dead bird!" I shout, pointing up at the sky. Unlike before, he didn't look up.

Ignoring the tears that slipped down my face, I continue stumbling through the forest. Twenty minutes later, I decided to rest again. I sat down and leaned heavily against a tree, groaning in exhaustion. I lay Leo next to me, resting his head on the bark. I then look up at the falling sun.

"All I want for Christmas is for us to be with our family again..." I whisper.

A tear falls down my cheek and I sniffle, laying my head on Leo's shoulder.

Ten minutes later, I stood, drowsily swaying for a few moments before grabbing Leo's arm. I carry him through the woods- mentally preparing myself for yet another night spent in the cold- while wondering where me and Leo could stay without freezing to death.

Just as I was about to take another break to look for shelter, something caught my eye.

A blossom, floating in the wind.

I watched with weak interest as it started to dance away. Curious, I decided to follow. Grabbing Leo's limp body, I carry him in my arms, stumbling after the flower.

"H-hey, wait u-up, flower!" I cried out, voice shaky and hoarse.

Desperate, I started to run, but collapsed in my weakened state.

I watched with sadness as the blossom drifted upwards, disappearing into the cloudy sky.

I turned around, looking down at Leo. His face showed pain, and I worriedly wrapped his mask tighter around the wound on top of his head.

I can't believe I actually thought that we might almost be back...

Sighing, I was about to sit down when I heard a muffled noise in the distance. Are those...

Voices?

Alarmed, I turned around, looking in the direction they were coming from. And that's when I saw it. The Farmhouse, just at the bottom of the hill.

Gasping, I readjusted Leo. I then staggered down through the snow, slowly trekking through it. As we got closer, I was unable to help the strangled cry of joy that erupted from my lips.

A few feet in front of the porch, I collapsed, a battered Leo still unconscious in my arms.

We made it...!
