New Opportunities

Morgan: Hey, we're on our way, are you ready?
Me: Yep, I'm ready, see you in a few.

I send the text and then lock my phone and walk to the kitchen. Morgan and I have been best friends since middle school. Neither one of us truly fit in Colorado, and we always talked about getting out or moving away. So, when Morgan's brother and his boyfriend invited her to move to L.A with them, she asked if I could come. I had never met Shane, but Ryland was like a brother to me. When Morgan told me they said yes, I was ecstatic.

When I walked into the kitchen, I see my dad at the table and my mom by the stove cooking her breakfast. My parents and I weren't super close, but we weren't distant either. They always supported me and cheered me on, and were there for me no matter what. It was just hard for me to open up sometimes. When my depression takes over, I kind of shut down and just want to be alone; so sometimes that made us a little distant. But that doesn't make the move any easier. My dad notices me first and speaks.

"Hey, Morgan on her way?" He smiles but I see hint of sadness behind it. I nod, trying not to cry. I'm gonna miss them. My Mom walks over to me.

"Okay" She hugs me and kisses my forehead. "Did you get everything?" I nod and hug her again, tears now forming in my eyes.

"I'm going to miss you guys..." Just then I hear a car horn honk. "I'll call you guys as soon as we land. I promise." I wipe a tear and hug them both. I give them both a kiss on the cheek, and my dad speaks up again.

"Have fun, don't do anything I wouldn't do." He grins, trying to fight the tear in his eye. I nod as he continues. "And if for any reason you want to come home, something happens, this Shane guy is a jerk or tries something," I cut him off as I hug him again.

"Dad, Morgan says he's really sweet, and you know she and Ryland would never let anything happen to me." He nods knowingly.

"I know, just, if something does happen,or you want to come home, just call." My mom speaks up next.

"Yeah, your old room will still be here." I hug her again as the car horn honks again. I look at them both as I laugh.

"Well I better go before Morgan leaves without me." My parents laugh and walk me to the car. My dad helps me put my luggage in the back, and then we walk to where my mom, Morgan, and Morgan's mom were talking.

"Now you guys be careful, call us when you land and if you need anything." My dad looks at Morgan who nods. "We love you guys." He hugs Morgan and when he pulls away Morgan hugs my mom.

"Love you sweetie." Morgan pulled away and her and her mom climbed in the car. I told my parents I loved them and then got in the car, and we were off to the airport.

I can't wait to get to L.A. I wonder what it will be like? More importantly, I wonder what Shane and his friends will be like? Morgan says I'll love them. I sure hope so.
