Once upon a time in a small town called Hawkins there was a high school senior named Danielle Toledano. She was smart, popular, and beautiful. Everyone could agree on that. She had been popular since middle school but only hung out with the same four people. It only made sense.

When Danielle's sophomore year of high school began, she met Steve Harrington and they hit it off right away to no one's surprise. Steve was the male version of Danielle to say the least—smart, popular, and beautiful. Walking to class together turned into eating lunch together which morphed into talking on the phone for hours and eventually led to a date.

One date led to another which led to another and then before she knew it, Danielle had a boyfriend. No one was shocked to see them holding hands or making out at their lockers. In fact, the school dubbed them royalty since they did "rule the school". King Steve and Queen Danielle rolled off the tongue quite nicely and Danielle was thrilled to be placed on such a pedestal. She didn't take this title lightly to everyone's dismay.

Steve and Danielle were dangerous individually but were even more dangerous now that they were together. All of Hawkins High was afraid of them. Energy shifted when they walked down the hall and a glance from either one of them scared some half to death. Sometimes they looked at the same person at the same time. That was enough to make people tremble.

They royal couple ruled Hawkins High peacefully for the duration of their sophomore year but junior year didn't treat them with the same respect.

It all started and ended with a kind, sweet brunette that went by Nancy Wheeler. She and Steve suddenly began talking and became friends which disgusted Danielle. Kings didn't associate with any other women besides their queens. At least that's what Danielle thought.

Then one day, Steve did the unspeakable—he invited Nancy to eat at their table. Daniele had to draw the line somewhere and that was it. There was an argument, a very heated on at that. Danielle had to ask the hard questions:

"Do you like her?"

"Do you think she's prettier than me?"

Steve never gave a straightforward answer to anything Danielle asked. She asked one final question:

"Do you love me?"

That's the only question he had an answer to and the answer was a smirk followed by a sharp "No."

Those two letters broke Danielle's heart in half. It seemed as if Steve enjoyed seeing her in emotional distress because he continued talking.

According to him, Daniele was manipulative, annoying, conceited bitch who dressed like a slut and had no soul. He said she was a cold, heartless whore and deserved all the punishment she could get. He told her to leave him alone and say hello to the devil when she went back to where she came from.

Danielle thought she was in hell. She knew breaking up with Steve would hurt her but not this much. Probably because she didn't know he disliked her so much. He basically hated her.

Steve and Nancy started dating the very next day leaving Danielle with no choice but to watch them walk to class together, eat lunch together, and make out at their lockers. They looked happy. Steve was never that happy with Danielle. It angered and saddened her at the same time. King Steve had found a new queen and it wasn't her. Queen Nancy didn't even sound as good as Queen Danielle.

However, Steve and Nancy's relationship took an interesting wrong turn. Danielle remembered seeing "Nancy 'the slut' Wheeler" graffitied on the movie theatre marquee. It left Danielle to believe that Steve Harrington was the worst person she'd ever met and she never wanted to speak to him again.

Except she did want to speak to him again. She wanted him back.

Steve made her feel like she was worth something. They ruled the school together. That was their "thing".

To everyone's surprise, Nancy and Steve made up and were back to their regular selves, despite the disgusting way Steve treated her. What really hurt Danielle was Steve deviating away from his "King Steve" personality, leaving Danielle to rule Hawkins High by herself.

Now it was 1984, Danielle's senior year of high school. The year had just begun and she was already sick of Steve and Nancy's picture perfect romance being thrown in her face. She missed striding down the halls with someone by her side. She wanted another king.

That's when she met Billy Hargrove, the new kid from California. They were basically the same person-angry, sarcastic and beautiful with some underlying family issues. They fell for each other almost instantly and Danielle knew she had found her king.

Unfortunately, this romance unlike many others did not end in happily ever after.
