Steve joined Billy and Tommy for stretches during PE as if it were custom. Tommy shot daggers at him as they bent over to touch their right foot but Billy remained unbothered. Truthfully, he'd been waiting since Saturday to talk to Steve.

"Why don't you ask me what you've been meaning to ask me instead of just standing there," Billy said, leaning to the left side.

"I don't know what you're planning to do with Danielle, but I know it's not good. Leave her alone."

"I smell jealousy," Billy responded with a chuckle.

"I'm just trying to protect her," Steve reasoned.

"Because you treated her so well the last time," Billy said. "Look, Harrington, you don't know me or my intentions with Danielle so I suggest you leave me and her alone. You wouldn't stand in the way of true love would you?"

"True love my ass," Steve scoffed. "You don't deserve her."

"Typical shitty ex commentary. Maybe you should stalk us on our second date too. Things will be much more interesting next time." Billy winked at Steve as the coach blew the whistle commencing the beginning of fifth period.

Danielle typically spent fifth period in the library since she didn't have a class. She sat by herself at the same table every day, studying, finishing last-minute assignments, and daydreaming when she wasn't as motivated. Today was a daydreaming day. Her calculus homework would have to wait.

She planned her and Billy's second date in the margins of her Spanish notes, doodling hearts and writing Billy's name in three different fonts. She wanted to go on a picnic at Lake Arbor at sunset, their basket filled with tea sandwiches and Spanish food made by her father. It would be just the two of them, far, far away from any kind of distraction.

She felt a presence at the opposite end of her table in the middle of her daydream. The only other person allowed at her table was Dana and Dana had ceramics fifth period.

"Whatcha doin', Dani?" Evelyn Lang asked, peering over at Danielle's notebook.

"Please leave, I'm starting to itch." Danielle resumed doodling and hoped if she pretended Evelyn wasn't there she would go away.

"I just wanted to ask if you were trying out for the dance team. It was so fun when we all did it freshman year," Evelyn sighed wistfully.

"The definition of 'fun' has changed since freshman year."

"You were a really good dancer though. You always have been," Evelyn said. "Try out with me, Monica, and Shannon!"
