Unlike last Monday, Danielle was actually excited for third period with Billy and diligently watched the clock during her first two classes. She'd talked Dana's ear off all weekend and all this morning about the date, almost to the point where Dana missed when Danielle was single. Corey also got an earful as soon as she got home Saturday night, declining to hear the gory details of their romantic evening. She especially couldn't wait to tell her father but he was asleep when she arrived home and slept for the rest of the weekend, even skipping mass to stay in bed. Danielle figured he'd had a long week at work and saved her story for another time.
Billy hadn't told anyone about Saturday and found himself to be quite nervous to see Danielle again as he walked to third period. Danielle's feelings toward him had a history of changing with the wind and just because she seemed to have a good time at Lake Arbor, didn't mean she did. He really wanted to have more sunset dates at the lake, eating paella and skipping stones together but it would never happen if she spontaneously decided she didn't like him anymore—if she ever liked him at all.
Danielle smiled at Billy when he walked into class two minutes before the bell. She came to class early to guard his seat next to her, side-eyeing and smart-mouthing anyone who dared to take his place.
Billy was relieved she saved him a seat and took that as a really good sign. He told himself to calm down and not let his insecurity get to his head.
"Wow, you saved me a seat?" He took a few seconds to admire her corduroy overall dress that left her legs on display for all to see.
"I had to. It would've been rude if I didn't—and I'm not rude." She knew he was staring at her and loved the attention. She could feel a compliment coming on.
"You look so hot today, girl. Not sure how I'm supposed to get any work done," he said, skimming over her again.
"You better figure it out. I don't date boys who fail English class," she responded with the click of her pen.
"So we're dating?" he asked, hoping his sarcasm masked his desperation.
"We won't be if you don't pay attention," Danielle smirked, turning to face forward when the bell rang.
She couldn't help but be slightly hypocritical of her own words during class as she replayed their date 40 times over in her head. There was nothing better to do during the rather boring lesson except daydream even when he was sitting right next to her.
Billy walked Danielle to her locker in between periods though his next class was in the opposite direction. He had to be around her as much as he possibly could. She was magnetic.
"What do you have fifth period?" he asked as she switched out her English notebook for a government and politics textbook.
"I don't have a fifth. Why?"
