You went back into the med-jack hut where Newt and Jeff were talking. "Newt." you coughed. Newt looked back at you with a smile. "What did Minho say?" he asked. "To meet him in the woods in half an hour."
Newt looked uneasy, you walked towards him. "You trust me on this, don't you?" you asked, taking your hand in his.
Jeff coughed "Well, I'll just leave you to then." and left.
"-Of course I do, love. I just don't want you to get hurt." Newt said, squeezing his grip on your hand as his eyes sparkled into yours.
"Honey, if I can survive the maze at night, I can survive it during the day."

That made him smile a bit. You placed your hands around his neck and kissed him. He easily melted into the kiss "Just be careful." Newt said, breaking the kiss.
"I will, Newt." you whisper in his ear.

Tiny time skip----------------------------------------------------------------------

When the half hour was nearly up, you headed into the woods where Thomas was already standing by one of the huts. You greeted him with a smile, as you heard someone coming from behind. It was Minho with a couple others behind him including Zart, Frypan, and Winston.

"Will this be enough?" Minho asked. "Perfect" you reply. "Okay, let's go." Thomas nodded.

The six of you ran into the maze. You haven't been in here for two months and you mildly dreaded it.
Thomas led you to a closed off section where a Griever was smashed in between the walls. "That's disgusting." Zart commented. "Eh." you shrugged. "That's nothing. When I killed a Griever it was with my own hands." you bragged. "But, I gotta admit that the guts weren't exploded everywhere."

"-Wait, there's something in there." said Thomas, luring closer to the creature. "You mean besides a Griever pancake?" said Frypan. You snickered at his comment.

Minho walked closer to the Griever. "Whoa, what are you doing?" Zart asked in protest. Minho ignored him and put his arm in the gap. The Griever's leg made a slight move and Minho jumped back.  You barely flinched at the sudden movement while the others jumped back. "Real smooth, Minho." you laughed. "I thought you said it was dead!" Frypan said in shock. "Was it a reflex?" Zart asked. "You hope." said Winston.
"-Guys, enough!" you say to get them to stop yelling at each other.

"Let's try to pull it out." said Thomas, luring himself near the mostly dead creature. All six of you grabbed the leg and pulled it on three. On three, you managed to pull the entire leg off. The other boys stumbled back while you stood their holding the leg. "Whimps." you mutter under your breath.

Something seemed to have caught Minho's eye because he immediately got up and went to the pile of guts, picking up a slimy heart. But, there was something inside it. Minho took it out as the boys groaned in disgust while you looked at it in awe.
"What the hell is that?" Thomas asked as Minho examined the piece of metal that had a small LED red blinking light and a tiny screen that had the number 7 on it.
"Okay, can we just take that thing back to the Glade? I'd hate to meet this guy's friends." said Frypan.

"Yeah, it's getting late, let's go." you say. And with that, the six of you ran back to the Glade, you in the lead.
When you got back, you had Newt and Gally meet you guys in Council Hall about your discovery.

Thomas handed the device to Newt. "We found this inside a Griever."
Newt looked at the gadget, where he found the four letters WCKD. "These are the same letters we get on our supplies." Newt said in shock
"Yeah, whoever put us here made the Grivers." said Thomas. "It's the first real clue anyone's found in three years."

"-It's all part of the same thing." you say. Everyone now had their eyes on you. "Guys, we were just given the biggest clue that has been right under our noses the whole time. All in just four letters!". Looks of realization and shock spread around the room.
"Y/N's right, Newt. We got to go back out there." said Thomas. "Who knows where this might lead us."

Newt exchanged looks with Gally. "You see what they're trying to do, right?" asked Gally. "First, Thomas breaks our rules, then tries to convince us to abandon them totally? The rules are the only things that have held us together."
"The rules have nothing to do with it, Gally." you say sternly. "It's the fact that we have trust in each other and you have to trust us on this on finding a way out.  And I know that you know that by Hell that if we found a way out, I'd keep everyone together with or without the rules."
"That's where you're wrong, Y/N. We are safe here as it is. Well, we were until this shank came along." Gally points to Thomas. "If Alby was here he'd agree with me. This shank needs to be punished."

Newt looked up from Gally to Thomas, then gave Minho back the gadget. "You're right. Thomas broke the rules." said Newt. "One night in the pit and no food."
"-Oh come on, Newt!" Gally protested. "One night in the pit?-Do you think that's gonna stop him from going into the maze?"

"No." Newt said simply. "And we can't have non-runners running into the maze whenever they feel like it, so let's make it official."

You stared at Newt, curiously. "Starting from tomorrow, you and Y/N are both runners."
You smiled at Newt, then to Thomas.

"Wow." Gally huffed. "Gal-" you say trying to stop him from leaving. "No, Y/N." Gally pushed you away. "It's okay, Y/N. I'll handle him." said Frypan as he followed Gally out the door. "Thanks Newt." said Thomas. Newt nodded his head toward Thomas and left. You trailed after him.

"Hon, you okay?" you asked. Newt stopped, turned around and nodded. You walked closer to him and took your hand in his. Then, without warning, Newt smashed his lips onto yours. You melted into the kiss.

"Hey, Y/N! Come on! You can do that later!" you hear Minho's voice say as you hear Thomas snickering in the back round. "I gotta go." you whisper in Newt's ear. "Yeah, I know." Newt replied back in a whisper. Newt pecked your forehead and gave you a quick hug.
You went to join Minho and Thomas and headed into the forest. You knew you were heading to the map room.

Once you got to it, Minho uncovered a table which revealed a model of the maze that looked like a middle school science project. Thomas looked at it in awe.

"It's the maze." Minho said. "All of it."
"I thought you were still mapping it." said Thomas. "There's nothing left to map." Minho replied. "I've run every inch of it myself. Every cycle, every pattern. If there was a way out, we would've found it by now."

Thomas shook his head in disbelief while you were studying the maze model. "Why haven't you told anyone this?" Thomas asked.
"It was Alby's call. People needed to believe we had a chance of getting out. But, maybe now, we have a real chance."

Minho handed  Thomas the gadget while he passed it to you. You examined the letters imprinted on the side; WCKD.
Minho sighed. "Take a look at this. About a year ago, we started exploring these outer sections. We found numbers printed on the walls. Sections one through eight. See, the way it works is every night when the maze changes, it opens up a new section. Today, six was open. Tomorrow it will be four, then eight, then three."

"What's so special about seven?" Thomas asked as you handed him back the gadget. "I don't know." Minho replied. "But, last night, when you killed the Griever, section seven was open. I think it must be where it comes from."

"-Section eight was open when I was trapped. But, the pattern doesn't seem right. If six was open today and section two was supposed to open last night, but the Griever came from section seven. Something isn't right here." you say, examining the sections of the maze model.

"Yeah, well tomorrow the three of us are gonna have a closer look at that." said Minho as you hear running footsteps draw nearer to the hut.
