song: follow me by the shacks
i woke up to my bed shaking. i opened my eyes to see ethan and grayson jumping on it screaming for me to get up. i groaned and covered my head with my pillow.
"leave me alone!" i responded.
"get up sydy!" ethan laughed. i reached for my phone. 10:00 on the dot. see, every saturday we go to a coffee shop at 10 ish and people watch. we've kind of grown out of chasing each other with knives so this is our new thing.
"who let you in?" i asked sitting up. they sat too.
"your mom. she said she woke up earlier than usual." ethan responded. i nodded. i usually woke before they got here but last night i was up texting wes.
wes flynn. the twins and him have been friends since sixth grade, when they moved here. sawyer and wes have been friends since second grade and they all just clicked in sixth. i met wes in kindergarten, we just never talked till we had a reason to. the twins. they wanted me and their friends to meet, officially, and i liked them. me and wes sparked the end of sophomore year when he and i had gotten stuck for a couple hours alone in the twins basement at a movie night. everyone went outside to jump in the pool and i didn't feel great so, wes stayed with me. we talked and talked and i just felt something leaving that night.
"sydney? hello?" grayson snapped me out of my thoughts. i looked at him and then saw ethan looking at my phone.
"excuse you!" i said grabbing the phone.
"omg wes! what a hottie!" ethan said in a girly tone.
"shut up you dork." i laughed at him. i pulled my covers off and got out of my bed. i opened my closet and grabbed some clothes and looked at the boys. "get out i'm
changing." i stated and they looked at me. i raised my brows at them and pointed to my door. the reluctantly got off my bed and left.after i got changed i walked downstairs to see my mom and the boys at my dining table talking.
"ready?" i asked them as i grabbed my keys and stuffed them in my bag. they all looked at me and got up.
"yeah, goodbye julie!" they said to my mom as she hugged them. she followed them to the door where i was waiting.
"be safe! i love you guys." she said kissing my forehead.
"okay bye!"we all said leaving. i followed my friends down the cobblestone path to their car.
"i was thinking about trying a new coffee shop. it's off dolven dr." grayson said getting in the drivers seat. ethan opened the passenger seat and waved me in. i laughed at him and got in.
"such a gentlemen." i stated as he got in the back.
"why thank you m'lady." he fake bowed. i smiled and then saw gray staring at us.
"guys? did you hear me?" he said starting the car.
"no what?" i said.
"wanna try a new shop out?" he asked pulling out of my driveway.
"i guess." i shrugged. he nodded and drove to the shop.
once we got to the cafe and got inside, i saw vivianna, my best friend.
"syd! what are you doing here?" she asked hugging me.
"our weekly saturday ritual." i said pointing to my boys. she nodded. "what about you?"
someone called vivs name to announce her order and she went to get it. she came back and raised her brown sack and a holder with four coffees, "family coffee run i guess." i laughed as the twins reached us.
"hey viv!" ethan said as she nodded to them, unable to hug.
"hey you two!" she got a call and nodded to me to pick it up.
"mom." i said. she nodded as i picked it up putting it to her ear.
"hey, yeah. mhm okay i'm comin now. bye!" she said to the phone. "gotta go y'all. see you around?" she asked.
"of course!" i said and she left.
"okay can we order now?" gray asked from behind me. i spun around and crossed my arms.
"just cause you said that, i'm gonna stand in your way and not let you order." i said standing firm in my spot. he laughed and easily shoved me out of the way. ethan caught me before i ran into someone. he looked in my eyes for split second before i looked away.
"you're mean." i said standing next to gray. i tried to shake off what just happened as the boys ordered.
"sydy what do you want?" ethan asked touching my elbow. i jumped at the sudden touch which pulled me from my thoughts.
"i'll order after y'all." i said reaching for my bag.
"no we got it syd." gray said.
"no you d-" ethan cut me off ordering my usual order. i scoffed and stared at them. they walked to a booth and i followed, reluctantly, like a toddler before a tantrum. i slid into a side of the booth, across from the boys.
"what?" gray asked me.
"you don't always have to pay for me." i said pulling my bag strap over my head.
"it's fine syd." he replied.
"no it's not. i'm perfectly capable of purchasing my own coffee." i whisper yelled. ethan laughed. "what?"
"you're just slow. if you don't want us to pay for you, like gentlemen, then you need to be faster. stop zoning out so much." he smirked.
i looked between them two as a waitress dropped our orders off. thus began our weekly ritual. we sat and talked and watched the people who came in and out of the shop.
"are you ready for school?" gray asked. junior year.
"school work, yes- well kind of. social stuff? nope." i said. ethan looked at me funny.
"social stuff? what do you mean?" grayson said.
"i'm not social, y'all know that. i have three good friends and a couple casual friends." i said sipping my watery drink.
"syd i know you don't like meeting new people and going to big crowd places but this year we will change that." ethan said assuringly.
"the hell? i'm still gonna be at home every night studying and watching netflix." i said laughing. "y'all can't make me do shit."
they laughed and looked at me with "oh really?" faces.
"just try. please for me?" ethan asked. i swallowed a bit. i don't really know why though.
"okay fine. but when it's s.a.t and a.c.t time you will leave me alone okay?" i asked. they knew studying was important to me so they nodded.
a/n- act and sat are college prep tests you take junior year where i live just because i think some places don't take it
"okay well i'm ready to leave. are y'all?" gray asked breaking the silence. me and eth nodded and got up following gray.
as we walked out the store and to the car and ethan, once again, let me have the front seat, i thought of junior year and what was in store. i felt like me and wes would be something and that i would finally be social. i did know that i would have twins right by me, all the way.
