[Judy is seen in Chief Dameron's office.]
Chief Dameron: Abandoning your post, inciting a scurry, reckless endangerment but - to be fair - you did stop a master criminal from stealing two-dozen moldy onions. [shows the bag, revealing plant bulbs]
Rey: Mmm, hate to disagree with you, sir, but those aren't onions. Those are a crocus variety called mendicampum holicithius. They're a Class С botanical, sir. Well, I grew up in a family where plant husbandry was kind of a thing...
Chief Dameron: Shut your tiny mouth now! [puts the bag away]
Rey: Sir, I got the bad guy. That's my job!
Chief Dameron: Your job is putting tickets on parked cars!
Luke Skywalker: [through intercom] Chief, uh, Mrs. Amidala's here to see you again.
Chief Dameron: Not now.
Luke Skywalker: [through intercom] Okay I just didn't know if you wanted to take it this time, she seems really upset...
Chief Dameron: [this time, punctuating one word at a time and pushing the button once for each word] NOT! NOW!
Rey: Sir, I don't wanna be a meter maid. I wanna be a real cop.
Chief Dameron: [fuming] Do you think the Mayor asked what I wanted when he assigned you to me?!
Rey: But sir, if...
Chief Dameron: Life isn't some cartoon musical where you sing a little song and your insipid dreams magically come true! So let-it-go. [Mrs. Amidala enters his office, distressed.]
Mrs. Amidala: Chief Dameron, please! Five minutes of your time, please!
Luke Skywalker: [Enters the room, catching his breath] I'm sorry sir... I tried to stop her...[leaves]
Chief Dameron: [calmly] Ma'am, as I've told you, we're doing everything we can.
Mrs. Amidala: [she shows a picture of herself and Anakin.] My husband has been missing for ten days. His name is Anakin Amidala.
Chief Dameron: Yes, I know.
[Rey looks at Mrs. Amidala, feeling sorry for her.]
Mrs. Amidala: He would never just disappear.
Chief Dameron: Ma'am, our detectives are very busy.
Mrs. Amidala: Please! There's gotta be somebody to find my Anakin.
Chief Dameron: Mrs. Amidala...
Rey: I will find him.
[She gets off the chair.]
Mrs. Amidala: [happily and gratefully] Oh, thank you! [she rushes over to hug Rey] Bless you, bless you! [Rey, mildly surprised at first, returns the hug, Chief Dameron grunts furiously at her. Mrs. Amidala gives Rey her picture.] Take this, find my Anakin. Bring him home to me, please. [Rey nods]
Chief Dameron: Ahem... Mrs. Amidala, please wait out here.
Mrs. Amidala: [leaves the room] Of course. Oh, thank you both so much.
Chief Dameron: One second. [after Mrs. Amidala leaves, Chief Dameron closes the door and turns to Rey, angrily, clenching his teeth] You're fired.
Rey: What? Why?
Chief Dameron: Insubordination! Now I'm going to open this door and you're going to tell her that you're a former meter maid with delusions of grandeur who will not be taking the case! [opens the door revealing Mrs. Amidala with Snoke]
Assistant Mayor Snoke: I just heard Officer Kenobi is taking the case!
Chief Dameron: [surprised] Assistant Mayor Snoke!
Assistant Mayor Snoke: [takes out his phone and texts] The inclusion initiative is really starting to pay off. Mayor Plutt is just gonna be so pleased!
Chief Dameron: No, no. Let's not tell the mayor just yet!
Assistant Mayor Snoke: And sent it. And it is done. [Chief Dameron face palms, grunting; to Rey] All right, well, I'd say the case is in good hands. Us little guys really need to... stick together, right?
Rey: Like glue.
Assistant Mayor Snoke: [Laughs] Good one. Yeah. Just call me if you ever need anything, okay? You've always got a friend at City Hall, Rey. Alright. Bye-bye!
Rey: Thank you, sir.
[Snoke and Mrs. Amidala leave, Chief Dameron with a fake smile closes the door. He sighs begrudgingly. Rey waits for a response.]
Chief Dameron: I will give you 48 hours.
Rey: [stoked and excited] Yes!
Chief Dameron: That's two days to find Anakin Amidala.
Rey: Okay.
Chief Dameron: But! You strike out, you resign.
Rey: [enthusiasm drops] Oh. Uh... Okay. Deal.
Chief Dameron: Splendid. Skywalker will give you the complete case file.
