"You know who I think is behind the murders?" Luke asked, grabbing the flashlight from me.
"What?" I chuckled, knowing this was going to be good.
"It's vampires," He said, turning on the flashlight under his chin so it illuminated his face.
"Every year they come out to feed on three beautiful women to sustain themselves for a year, leaving only a bloody trail to show their atrocious crime against those 3 humans." He whispered, trying to get a rise out of us.
"No, it's just some white dude most likely in his mid-forties who is sick enough in the head to get off on killing girls." I said, bringing his little fantasy to an end.
"Always the realist." Aurora giggled, shaking her head next to me.
"I don't know, Elizabeth. There's never quite enough blood left behind to prove that those girls are dead, and of course, no bodies have ever been found. They could be in their vampire lair." Luke teased me.
"Fuck off." I told him, smiling at him while I flipped him off.
"In all seriousness though, people go missing and it's obviously violent with how much blood is left behind. All I know is that I'm not about to fuck around and go outside after 8 tonight, Saturday, and Sunday." Aurora said to us.
"I fully agree with you." I replied.
"It must suck to be you two, we men don't have to worry about that. Whoever is behind this has a clear preference for young women." Luke added.
"Good for you." Aurora and I groaned.
I looked over at the clock and saw that it was quarter to 8, which meant it was time for us to get downstairs.
"Hey, can you grab the flashlight, and we'll grab the booze and food?" I asked Luke.
"Ay, ay, captain!" He cheered, running down the hall to get down to the basement.
"I'll go make sure everything is locked up and that all of the lights are off." I told her.
"Sounds good, just be fast." She said, a little bit of worry in her voice.
"I will, I will." I promised her.
I jogged upstairs, checked every window to make sure it was locked as well that every light was turned off. I went down to the next level of the house where we had just been hanging out and made sure everything was good as well.
Once I was satisfied that everything was taken care of and all caution had been taken, I grabbed my baseball bat and made my way downstairs, locking the basement behind me.
These awful and violent disappearances have been going on the past 3 years, and in all honesty, the scariest thing about them besides from the brutal nature of the crimes was that it had happened everywhere across the country. The first year it was in San Francisco, the second year it had been in Duluth, and last year the 3 girls were taken from Scranton, PA.
However, I just kept telling myself that I took far more precautions than most others did during these 3 days, so it wouldn't be worth the fight to try and get me.
"You're just in time. It's now just 8." Aurora told me.
Luke poured us all a shot, and we all sat around the table before we said a quick toast and all slammed the shot back.
"Now let's have Bloody Mary's!" Luke joked.
"No thanks, it doesn't get me drunk fast enough. Shots are the only thing that will make me sleep well through the night."
"Aww, don't be worried, we'll be okay." Aurora cooed, rubbing my back.
"No, I know we will be. It's just that it's rough knowing that something horrible is going to happen tonight yet again, and there's nothing we can do about it. It just makes me sick to my stomach that they haven't found this guy." I admitted, throwing back down another shot of vodka.
"I know." Luke sighed, finally calming down and brushing aside his party guy persona.
"How about this? Let's just all got to bed right now. Sitting here thinking about it isn't unfortunately going to help anything and will only taint our dreams, turning them to nightmares. When we all wake up next to each other again tomorrow morning, we can take a deep breath and relax." Aurora suggested.
"Just to do it again tomorrow." I groaned, flopping down on my air mattress.
"Hey, you be positive!" Aurora scolded me.
"Yes, mother." I teased her.
"Good night, Liz. See you tomorrow." She cooed.
I smiled into my pillow, I truly had the best friends - even if Luke could sometimes be a pain in the ass.
A few minutes later, my exhaustion took over and I slipped into a deep sleep, briefly forgetting about the events of the night that would be taking place somewhere in the country.

I woke up to the blinding blue light that was flashing on my phone, alerting me to a news article.
Oh no, my stomach dropped not wanting to read what I figured would be the news.
However, I was also relieved to see that I was alright as well as Aurora and Luke.
The time on my phone was 3 am, so I went over to the stairs to open up my phone and read the article.
It was the same story, but now the 10th time we all had read it. A young woman who was silently abducted from her bedroom, with a pool of blood left behind, and no other clear evidence.
The only thing that calmed me down a bit was seeing that this happened far away from Chicago which is where we lived. At least we were saved another year.
I sighed deeply and thought to myself 'Here we go again'.
