"Hey, we made it." I softly cheered, bringing down a cup of coffee for Aurora.
Luke didn't need it, and thankfully didn't like the taste.
"Oh? That's good." She groggily whispered, once again proving to me that she wasn't a morning person in the slightest.
"Yes, the fact that we lived is obviously very good. Feel free to show some more excitement." I teased her.
"Did it happen last night, and if so where?" Luke wondered, sitting up from his air mattress.
"Yes, it did happen, and it happened in Jackson, Mississippi. It was just as gruesome as it has been all the other times. A 20 year old barista never made it in for her 2 am shift at a 24 hour coffee shop, and they found a pool of blood in her bed, and nothing else. No signs of a struggle, no shreds of clothes left behind, and no trace of another person in the room. Whoever's doing this is somehow still getting away with this shit." I explained.
"Damn." Luke groaned, shaking his head.
"Hey, as horrible as this may sound at least it wasn't in Chicago. We don't have anything to worry about." Aurora said, finally getting up and drinking her cup of coffee.
"You're right." I agreed with her.
My phone rang, and once I saw the number I answered it immediately.
"Hello, Elizabeth. How are you? Much better than that poor soul in Mississippi, hmm?" Dan answered the phone.
Damn, he was an insensitive prick, but that wasn't exactly news to me. He was my general manager at the store I worked at, and I had somehow managed to become his little errand girl.
Which meant I at least got a raise, but when he needed stuff from other regional stores, I was the one running to get them.
It was nice to make more money, but he was a prick so...that's what I was stuck with.
"Don't be an ass, someone could have been murdered for all we fucking know. Don't make a joke of it." I said, already sick of him.
"Whatever. I need a favor for you actually, there's a shipment of new inventory sitting in Milwaukee for us, and I need you to go and get it tonight." He told me.
"I already had plans for tonight and tomorrow." I said.
"Hmm, too bad. Now that we know you're safe since it's happening in Jackson, MS, you don't have an excuse. You come and pick up the shit or else you're fired. " Dan said, giving me an address and then hanging up the phone.
"Fuck." I groaned, throwing my head back.
"What's up?" Aurora asked.
"I have to go and fucking pick some inventory up later tonight for Dan." I grumbled.
