"Your mom doesn't live here with you? I thought all vampires lived here. Or are you guys spread out in different covens like in twilight?" I wondered.

"Really, Elizabeth? Fucking twilight? You're too good for that tween bullshit." Chris scoffed, angrily shaking his head.

"Hey, fuck you. Twilight was amazing. Perfect? No, but it was a damn good story despite a few odd things going on. When you write a better series, let me know." I defended the books that I had embarrassingly enjoyed a little too much for a good four years of my life.

"I'm going to politely forget that you just cussed me out, but do it again and we're heading back home. Being soulmates doesn't excuse you from breaking my rules. Anyways, back to your question. Yes, we are spread out through different parts of the world. However, my mom's in a little bit of a different living situation...you'll see when we get there." Chris sighed, something clearly bothering him.

Shutting my mouth up, I sat still and looked out the window. I was smart enough to recognize that if I kept running my mouth I'd eventually run across something that would get me in trouble. Although if I could ask any question, it definitely was going to be why in the fuck he knew about twilight. Was his life that long and boring that that's what we was reduced to? Personally, I feel like if I had immortal life I wouldn't take any of that time to sit and read some vampire romance series, but to each his own.

Studying Chris' face, I noticed some new emotions in him that I hadn't seen for my entire stay here. It looked like a jumbled mess of nervousness, worry, and almost sadness. Did he not have a good relationship with his mother?

Well, that wouldn't make sense considering he was taking me to her to prove to me that he had a heart. Or maybe he was going to try and make up with her, and that would prove his kindness?

I just couldn't read the situation at the moment very well. Chris had a wonderful poker face.

The scenery around us changed about an hour into the drive, and we were fully surrounded in trees and nature. It was like we were on a road in the middle of a forest, and for all I knew we were. There was an absence of sound in the car as neither one of us was speaking, and there was no music on. It was making me so uncomfortable and uneasy.

For some reason, I kept expecting him to say something, anything, but that wasn't the case.

I rolled my eyes, did this guy have fucking mommy issues?

Not that I was insensitive to that, but that seemed like something I really didn't want to get in the middle of. My gut feeling was that vampire family arguments were a whole hell of a lot worse than human families.

"Tell me something about yourself, anything." I finally asked, needing something to break the silence.

"I have two brothers." He said, turning to me with a stupidly cute little smirk.

"Oh, the dead man has a sense of humor. You should try being funny more often, it really brings out the non demonic side of you." I suggested.
